Both an HTML instance and an XHTML instance can be represented as a DOM
tree.

What does "characteri zed" mean ?

They can both be loaded into a DOM and adressed as a DOM tree. For
XHTML, it might be loaded into two DOM; HTML and XML.

I'm struggling to think of an appropriate meaning for "characteri zed"
though that fits this situation.

I'd guess it's meant to mean represented.

And I'd also guess the OP is making a fair effort in a language
that's not his/her own.

Hi, I need to get a sort of DOM from an HTML page that is declared as XHTML but unfortunately is *not* xhtml valid.. If I try to parse it with xml.dom.minidom I get error with expat (as I supposed), so I was told to try in this way, with a "forgiving" html parser: from xml.dom.ext.reader import HtmlLib reader = HtmlLib.Reader() dom = reader.fromUri(url) # 'url' the web page FIRST ISSUE:

Hi - I'm looking to code some javascript that has an event handler tied to an image ("a down arrow") that will expand code that was hidden on the page load. It's pretty simple, I have an accessories html table that I want to load in the html but hide to save page real estate until you click the "down arrow" image. I know I've seen stuff like this before, can anyone point me to an example of this or give me an idea of how to code it? ...

I'm trying to learn AJAX so tonight I sat down and came up with a little toy that I can do tests with. You can see it here: http://www.publicdomainsoftware.org/ajaxExperiment.htm I've got Stuart Langridge's book "DHTML Utopia: Modern Web Design using Javascript and DOM" which seems pretty good. It covers the basics. The next thing I'd like to do is add a Save button to this little page I came up with. I may use Sam Stephenson's...

A couple years ago it seemed like XHTML was the direction of most web markup, a foregone conclusion. Now I return to the scene and I see many here recommending that authors stick to HTML, albeit in strict mode. What happened? Why the shift? What's the problem with XHTML that has everyone saying it be avoided in most cases? Can I take it that this group seems to think HTML5 is going to be the future direction of the web rather than...

hi, I've got lots of xhtml pages that need to be fed to MS HTML Workshop to create CHM files. That application really hates xhtml, so I need to convert self-ending tags (e.g. <br />) to plain html (e.g. <br>). Seems simple enough, but I'm having some trouble with it. regexps trip up because I also have to take into account 'img', 'meta', 'link' tags, not just the simple 'br' and 'hr' tags. Well, maybe there's a simple way to do that...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
