Table allergy - Need your help

I have been increasingly allergic to table web sites lately, and I'm
concerned for my health. Basically these are the symptoms:

- Each time I visit a web site, I need to view the source to see if there
is no table, if there is, I can't keep going.
- If there is no table, I need to validate the page to see if it is a
standard-compliant page. If it doesn't validate, I need to hit the back
button.
- If the page is designed without tables, I need to toggle on/off the
style sheet in Opera hitting the "Author Mode/User Mode" button to see how
it looks like without the style sheet.

Do you have these symptoms? Is it serious? Maybe Lauri Raittila, our
seasoned guru, has an explanation...
Thanks,

Why did you go there in first place - you should avoid going to sites
that you know that most likly don't interest you. In other words, don't
follow links here
Do you have these symptoms?
No. If I am asked to look some site, I usually stop evaluating site when
I can see enough problems to fill a page in my newsclient.

If I see URL here, I usually launch it to confirm my initial thought. If
it seems it might be something I have not seen before, I investigate
further.

If I am surfing, I sometimes go much farther than normal user to make
site usable. Of course, only if there is no other website about subject,
or the other has worse content.
Is it serious? Maybe Lauri Raittila, our

Those things are very easy to do on website, so when not knowing what is
wrong, using one of above approaches tells something. It doesn't matter
it the problme that orginally puzzled you is not caused by one of these,
as they need to be fixed anyway, so if the puzzling problem is not
evident, there is no reason to find it, as it is likely to be cured when
fixing bigger issue.

I do that when I am asked to fix something. If I am paid, I use
information to fix things, if I am on my free time, I tell what things
done incorrectly I saw.

A user stylesheet with
table {border: thick solid red !important;}
would save you the effort of looking at the source code.
- If there is no table, I need to validate the page to see if it is a
standard-compliant page. If it doesn't validate, I need to hit the back
button.
This has me puzzled. Both the built in validator link in Opera and the
Web Dev toolbar for Firefox open the validator results in a new tab.
So hitting the back button won't do anything. I'm not qualified to
diagnose OCD but that's what comes to mind.
- If the page is designed without tables, I need to toggle on/off the
style sheet in Opera hitting the "Author Mode/User Mode" button to see how
it looks like without the style sheet.
Am I the only one who finds that the keyboard shortcut for said toggle
is broken in Opera 8 beta?

You are probably not the only one who didn't read the changelog. Since
beta2, it's Shift+G. Ctrl+G is now 'Find next'. There are a few more
changes, but that would be very off-topic.

True, and to automatically verify if a page validates, I hit Ctrl-Alt-V.

Does anyone know of a way to execute sql code from a dynamically built text field? Before beginning, let me state that I know this db architecture is built solely for frustration and I hope to make it better soon. Unfortunately, there is never a non-crucial time in which we can do an upgrade, so we are stuck for now. Point 1: There are multiple tables: students, courses, cross-reference

I apologize if this is a RTFM question, but I have not been able to find a definitive answer elsewhere. Does a "REINDEX TABLE" lock the table while it is working? Can applications write data to the table during the REINDEX? I am working on a real-time application that handles over 2 million "events" per day and runs 7-by-24. Most of these events involve an UPDATE to one or two tables, though a small subset involve a bit more work. ...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
