Command Prompt session history file

1 New Member
Hello Everyone,

I have Windows XP. I hope that someone can assist me with the command prompt. Does anyone know if the commands I enter into the command prompt are automatically saved to a session/history file on the C drive and/or in the registry? For example, I would like to open this "file" and view the commands I have entered (e.g. ls –l, CD.., ipconfig /all). I am not looking to manually forward the commands or output to a text file; I just want to know if they are automatically saved in a file. The Bash Shell in UNIX stores session history in the ~/.bash_history file.

Many thanks!

You are correct, Unix is that nice that it does that, but I think that for Windows, the commands are stored, but only during the session and I believe they are in memory if I am not mistaken. Thus, you close the command window and open a new one and all is lost to start a new.
