Hi all, I guess I don't fully understand how a SHA1 hash value is calculated in C# / .NET for a large file... I'm trying to calculate SHA1 values for large files that are much larger than my physical main memory. It seems the way to derive a SHA1 value involves opening a file stream to the large file, passing it to a byte array, and passing the byte array to the .NET hash method. Does this load the entire file into main memory (within...

Hi, I am trying to compare 2 images to check if they are exactly identical (in terms of data), I thought this would be quicker than analysing pixels of the images. I have found lots of examples for encrypting text strings using MD5 hash, but I cannot find a way to get this to work with images that exist in picture boxes. I am trying to get a hash for the image file, but not from the file but from the picture box as there is some editing...

Is the code below valid? Generally a value must be accessed through the same type it was stored as, but there is an exception for data stored through a character type. I'm not sure if that applies in this case though: #include <limits.h> unsigned foo(void) { static const union { unsigned char str;

I am trying to provide some security to text files, by adding a signature at the end of each text file. this signature needs to be generated by some kind of hashing algorithm. so while sending the file, i will sign the text file and at the receiving end, the text file will be checked to make sure that the hash code matches. ( not that it matters for this but my environment is c++ in vs.net2003) any ideas about what kind of hash...

Hi - I'm trying to calculate unique hash values for binary files, independent of their location and filename, and I was wondering whether I'm going in the right direction. Basically, the hash values are calculated thusly: f = open('binaryfile.bin') import hashlib

I'm having difficulty trying to figure out how to print a text file from a hash table one line at a time. I have the text file read into the hash table and can print the text file all at once, but I can't seem to figure out how to do it one line at a time. Here is what I'm trying to do: I want the user to be able to print the text file one line at a time by clicking a button to see the next line. Example: If text_file1 first line is...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
