OCR scanning of forms for Access Database

344 Recognized Expert Contributor
We are currently collecting info on some 18,000 people every month on paper forms. This data is then entered into an Acess database. This is taking far to long, and the data entry is very inaccurate, so we are thinking of redesigning the paper forms to allow them to be scanned in and some sort of OCR software will analyse the scanned image and produce the required data in Acess or Excel.

My problem. This is way out of my field. Does anyone know any software system that would do this for me.

TIA

OmniPage is fairly popular, and it supports a wide variety of file formats.

Haven't used it, so that's about the best I can give you.

Thanks for this. We are currently looking at ABBYY Formreader, which is a lot more expensive than OmniPage. Not sure if OmniPage will interface directly with an Access database though.

There's no real need to "interface directly". You can use an intermediate step by going to CSV first, then pull that into the DB.

My problem is I have no experience at all of this type of software. I do know that the finished product will have to scan some 18,000 pages every month, handled remotely by IT illiterates and so needs to be as simple as possible to process.

Still waiting for the trial software from ABBYY (and now from Omipage Capture as well) so I can test it out.

Fair enough. I hope one of the commercial solutions works out for you at some sort of reasonable price. Good luck.

What are the most popular, and well supported, libraries of drivers for bar code scanners that include a Visual Basic and C/C++ API? My requirements are: - Must allow an application to be written to a single interface, but support many different manufacturers' barcode scanning devices. I do not want to be tied to one manufacturers' software interfaces. - Must support use of the scanner from Visual Basic, and ideally from C/C++ and...

I'm using Access 2000, and I'd like to know if there is a way to use a scanner (flatbed, doc-feed, etc) to scan forms with OMR or OCR software, and have the data be automatically (or if not automatically then using a macro or other means) entered into tables. I guess the real question is do I need to use an expensive program to do this or is it codable suing Access/VB, and if it is codable, any suggestions as to how to start? Many...

I have a client for whom I built a client database to replace and update one they had that was obsolete and not doing what they want. They are wanting to move on to the next step and automate most of their forms. some are boilerplate forms that are simple printed without change. some are boilerplate but require signatures from client and rep. Others...

I am looking for others who have built systems to scan documents, index them and then make them accessible from an Access database. My environment is a nonprofit with about 20-25 case workers who use laptops. They have Access databases on their laptops and the data is replicated. The idea is that each case worker would scan their own documents, either remotely or back at the office. And NO I am not planning to store the scanned...

Hi, I am in the design phase of building a database that will track the productivity of my warehouse. I am thinking of using a barcode scanner to assist me with this. Employees will hopefully be scanning a barcode which will communicate to the computer that the employee did some type of task. Employees will be identified by ID badges which will contain string data to identify them and hopefully log them in. Is this a good way to keep...

Hi Guys, I have been using EzTwain Pro to scan documents into my access program. It allows me to specify the location I want the Doc to go to. It also allows me to set the name of the document as well. The link to the program is as below : EZTwain imaging library system - add TWAIN scanning or image capture to your application. I'm not sure if it's the nature of the program, but the scanning module is very slow to load. Otherwise it's...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
