creating a database conceptual to physical

3 New Member
i have been set a task which i having problems with.

i have to carry out the task of:

The task is expected to be completed before the end of the second laboratory session. A full account on the design at both conceptual and physical level, database normalisation, as well as the database implementation and results on table creation, data insertion and requested data searches, are to be presented in a form of a technical report (laboratory log book can be used) with a copy of search printouts.

Design a MRP system that is needed to support business activities in a company that manufactures car
starters. The MRP system is supposed to keep data on the Bill of Material for every product (car starter) in the company, all the suppliers of the parts used in the company, as well as the existing stock of all the parts. Assume that each part is generally supplied by more than one supplier and that each
supplier supplies more than one part. Also, each part could take any place within bills of material of any product. Parts are stored only on one place and only data on total quantity (inventory) of parts is needed.

i have created the relationships but needed help on the normalisation can you plz help

For some reason I am getting an error when trying to open a recordset on an Access database on my Win2K3 machine from my INDEX.ASP page, but the same code accesses the database fine when coming from the GLOBAL.ASA page. I'm using a DSN to connect to the database. The error I'm getting is: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005' Data source name not found and no default driver specified /index.asp, line 14

I have an Access 2000 MDB with ODBC linked tables to a SQL Server 7 back end. I currently have a selections table in the front end file which the users use to make selections of records. The table has two fields -- primary key (which matches primary key of main, SQL Server table), and a boolean field. The table is linked to the main table in a heterogeneous inner join. I'm looking to move the table to the back end, while still giving each...

I've run across this issue several times of late, and I've never come up with a satisfactory answer to the best way to handle this schema issue. You have a large section of schema in which a subset of records across all tables is often considered a separate logical system, but sometimes may be treaded ar part of the global system, and there is not simply a 1-m-m... tree among the records in a logical database. Here's an example. A...

I have a conceptual question. I'm in the preliminary stage of writing an Access2000 application which is going to have about 3 users at a time producing retail costing of a product. The ecompany has about 50 different pieces of equipment each having about 20 fields of physical properties (i.e. speed, hourly rate, etc.). My concern is if I set up a table for each piece of equipment that will have to be opened to "build" the final costing,...

Hi, I am using MS-SQL server to store my database. My problem is that I have around 150+ database files in DBF format. Each database file consists of fields ranging from 2 to 33 in number. Also, there are some fields which have just one entry and rest are NULL. This database will be accessed by a printing software. Please advice as to how I should proceed to normalize this database. Regards,

Here's my plan for creating nightly backups of the production back-end file (the IT staff in their infinite wisdom have prevented use of Windows Scheduler and users do not have administrative rights to Windows). Candace Tripp has an automatic backing up program that I modified for our use. You can schedule a time for the backup to occur. Since Windows task scheduler is not available to us, this means that the auto backup program will...

Hey All, I'm having a little problem here. I have a project that I'm working on that involves a MySQL server database backend. I'm having no problem creating the database on the fly if it doesn't already exist and using it once it's created. My problem comes into play when I run the program for the first time. I'm wanting to have some kind of flag that lets me know that the database has not yet been created, so that I can call my...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
