Cataloging database on unsupported platform

We are using an unsupported configuration:

DB2 V7.2 WSE fixpak 14 for OS/2 WARP.
Several database applications written in VisualAge C++ with Data
Access Builder (DAX)

We have discovered this very strange behaviour:

Many of the c++ applications traps while accessing the remote
production database via TCP from a machine where there is also
installed another copy of DB2 V7.2 WSE fixpak 14 for OS/2 WARP and
there is a locally catalogued database.
The workarounds are:
1) access the production database from client only machine with no
database server installed
2) access the production database from server machine where database
are all catalogued as remote (even database locally resident on the
hard disk must be re-catalogued as remote and not as local)

Now the question is:
is there any problem if a database initially created and catalogued as
local is re-catalogued as remote ?
