Is Query with Union All on federation run parallel?

1 New Member
Hi All,

I have federation setup on db2 database (X) for 4 different db2 servers (e.g. A1, A2, A3, A4).
I created below nicknames on X database which uses 4 db2 servers.
A1_EMP_DIM
A2_EMP_DIM
A3_EMP_DIM
A4_EMP_DIM

Is below query run parallel on 4 server (A1, A2, A3, A4)?

Select EMP_ID,EMP_NAME from X.A1_EMP_DIM
Union All
Select EMP_ID,EMP_NAME from X.A2_EMP_DIM
Union All
Select EMP_ID,EMP_NAME from X.A3_EMP_DIM
Union All
Select EMP_ID,EMP_NAME from X.A4_EMP_DIM

Regards

I have a SQL 7 db with a union query (view), and I'm getting the error, "The query processor could not start the necessary thread resources for parallel query execution." This union query has been in place for about two years now with no problems until just now, though I haven't changed anything. Also, I have a local copy of the database on my machine, and the query runs fine. As noted, I haven't changed anything in the query, nor in the...

My client is going through a large project to replace existing data warehouse physical infastructure which is running DB2 8.1.6. In the past we had a much more distributed environment where we had certain portions of the data warehouse on a physically different server. We utilized federation to allow the joining of tables on seperate instances. We found that this worked ok in situations where the tables were not that large say under...

Hi, I have a large table (about 50G) which stores data for over 7 years. I decided to split this table up into a yearly basis and in order to allow minimum changes to the applications which access this table, I created a union all view over the 7 yearly tables. What I have noticed is that queries against the union all view is considerably slower than queries against the original table. When I ran db2batch, I noticed cpu usage was higher...

Hi all, I have a query in ASP.NET that selects text from a memo field in Access (among other things). The query appears to be truncating the text at 255 characters. I've done a little research on this and found some other Google Groups threads that were helpful, but I still don't have a solution. My query is rather complicated and uses a union, but not the keyword distinct. The query is displayed in a datagrid, and I don't know how I...

Hello every body. I have a small issue. Problem: I have a table with 4 descriptor columns (type). I need to formulate a query to retrieve a count for each type so I can group by...etc. The view I have works, but doesn't work when I supplement the query with some functions... they just don't like the UNION. The real problem is I can't change any of the udf's or queries, just the view. The view is inner joined back on to the primary...

A client has 390/V7 and UDB/V8. It would be useful to use row_number() when selecting from 390, but that's not supported. It occurs to me (I'm not in CubeLand, and anyway we upgraded to V8 on z/OS) that federation (on UDB/V8) might support functions on those 390/V7 tables. Is this known? thanks

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
