Is it a bug or BAD (broken as designed :-) that RUNSTATS apparently
ignores the set schema command?
I am running DB2 8.1.5 on linux, using quest as a windows client.

This should be a rather ROUTINE procedure for you DBAs.
I keep hearing at technical conferences and user groups the phrase
"then rebind all your plans and packages" (after reorg, load, &
runstats, etc). Obviously those plans and packages that need
rebinding are only those packages & plans relevant to the tablespace
just processed. How do I find out? (I'm on DB2 v7, MVS)
I've read five (5) 6-pound books on DB2 (cover-to-cover)...

My situation is as follows. I have several big SQL queries in a data
warehouse using 1 big fact tables and 10 dimension tables. The queries
join all of them together but the optimizer doesn't care which
dimension table it joins first (we ran runstats on all of them but the
dimensions look a lot alike... about same order of rows, ...). I know
it should first join on 1 specific dimension if it's in the query
since that dimension will discard...

Hi.
I am trying to test out the automatic maintanance with notification
feature of DB2 v8.2. I have enabled the auto maint with notification.
The problem I am facing is that I only get email notifications from DB2
when there is an alarm as follows:
ADM10500E Health indicator "Monitor Heap Utilization"
("db2.mon_heap_util") breached the "upper" alarm threshold of "95 %"
with value "124 %" on "instance" "DB2"....

Hello,
What kind of difference does it make to update statistics
via 'REORGCHK UPDATE STATISTICS ON TABLE ALL' or by running
directly 'runstats on table xxx.yyy with distribution and detailed
indexes all" for all tables ?

Hi:
I'm testing DB2's new automated maintenance feature and, so far it
seems to accomplish what it is instructed to do, but we (DBA's) have no
control on when the evaluation cycle is going to happen nor when the
utilities are set to execute.
We only supply 'time ranges' for DB2 to operate upon. What I want is a
means to 'force' a new evaluation period (i.e. I'm creating and loading
new tables and I want to force a new evaluation cycle...

I've got a large table on db2 8.2.1 that I rarely perform runstats on.
It has about 600 million rows organized in a single MDC time dimension
on a non-dpf warehouse.
Anyhow, we recently ran runstats on it with a 20% sampling. After this
was performed the highly selective queries using the time dimension
slowed down drastically (8000% increase in duration). Earlier today I
marked the table 'volatile' and queries went back to normal. ...

If RUNSTATS is called directly, we can specify UTIL_IMPACT_PRIORITY to
limit CPU consumption. For automatic runstats, there is no place to
specify this paramater. Will it use the DBM value of UTIL_IMPACT_LIM?
Thanks in advance,
Norm

Hi all,
I am comming along with all this Linus/DB2/scripting business...I am no
longer scared of it!! (LOL). But,
I need to create a .ksh script that does a REORGCHK and output only tables
recommended for reorg.
My goal is to reorgchk and run reorgs based on entries in this reorg file as
shown in the example below.
I have tried my hand at the following failing script and hope that gurus here
can throw me a lifeline of examples on how to...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
