I'm attempting to implement MQTs to improve performance on some nasty
SQL.
In the Oracle world, if I recall, materialized views must use tables
as underlying objects - ie., they cannot be based on views.
Does the same hold in db2 (8.2 LUW, 8 z/OS)?
I'm looking in SQL reference 2 about the syntax for the fullselect,
and although I suspect by the wording that I am correct, I'm not
finding a specific statement such that an underlying object referenced
by the fullselect cannot be a view.
I'll keep looking...

Cancel that - nothing beats trying it yourself, I guess. Looks to work

I am new to T-SQL programing, and relativly new to SQL statements in
general, although I have a good understanding of database theory. I'm a
little confused as to the fundamental differences between a view and a
query, or rather, when it is more appropriate to use one vs. the other.
It seems to me that most select queries can be implemented as views, and I
can't see the downside to doing so.

and I'm amazed nobody from Microsoft answered about this problem. By
inserting lots of data into our two main tables for about 30 minutes,
we can fail our materialized view that performs a count_big on those
two tables.

of a larger one that is automatically run in multiple databases where
different views exist.
Question:
My understanding of views is that by simply stating 'select * from
myviewname where 0=1' that the view is recompiled. If so, what
advantages are there in using sp_refreshviews?

At one of the clinets I am working with, we are having a debate about
the use of MQTs or go with traditional way of creating aggregate
tables and populating them. I would go with the MQTs instead of the
traditional way.
Does anyone has any input as to which way is better from an apporach
point of view which would result that is better for an organization.
