Hi All,
I have taken an db2 v8.1 fp15 backup on AIX and want to restore it
into a db2 v8.1 fp15 Solaris Box. If the backup was uncompressed, the
cross-platform restore works without any issue. But for compressed
backup images, since the decompression requires compression libraries,
which I assume, is in native AIX binary code(and embedded into the
image), it fails to restore the database.
Could someone advise, if we can decompress the backup image
**outside** the restore process? Can we run the image through a gunzip/
or any other external decompression tool to extract a uncompressed
Backup image?
Thanks in Advance.

This is /exactly/ the reason why I use an external compression utility
(gzip in my case). You might get better ratios w/ the database-based
compression, but you couple yourself to /that/ implementation. .
Sorry, I don't have a better answer for you. Can you take the backup
again, w/o compression?

I've a question regarding db2 (V8.1) and database backups
going to a storage manager like TSM for example.
As I can see in the storage manager if I backup the complete
database over the TSM API (no tablespace backups) the backup
images is stored as a single backup object.
Later I will be able to restore the complete database from
this image and I will also be able to restore single tablespaces
from this backup image as long as I...

I am loading a TIF file into a bitmap stream (Dim bmp as new bitmap etc
etc). I use GDI+ to draw some text onto the lower left corner of the TIF,
then save the image (i.e. bmp.Save(filename)). However, I am finding that
the original TIF is NOT compressed, but when I save the bmp stream as TIF,
it compresses it. I know this because I load each one into a viewer and the
properties show that the newly saved TIF is compressed via LZW. Problem...

Hello,
I want to put (incrementally) changed/new files from a big file tree
"directly,compressed and password-only-encrypted" to a remote backup
server incrementally via FTP,SFTP or DAV.... At best within a closed
algorithm inside Python without extra shell tools.
(The method should work with any protocol which allows somehow read,
write & seek to a remote file.)
On the server and the transmission line there should never be...

Hello.
Some time ago I asked in this conference, - How to use an ONLINE BACKUP to restore database onto another system? - but got no answers. Therefore I can conclude it is not possible.
But... what can I do with "online backup", really ? What is it needed for ? I do not see any possibility to use this backup. Please, share your knowledge, if you can.
Yes, I've read that since version 8.2 there is an option "INCLUDE LOSG" for "online...

I've just tried the following code for decompressing a .zip file, but get the following error message:
"The magic number in GZip header is not correct. Make sure you are passing in a GZip stream."
The error is on line 27: "int bytesRead = compressedZipStream.Read(smallBuffer, 0, 100);"
My code is as follows:
using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Text;
using System.IO;

It is possible that we may be asked to restore a production tape, say 3
yrs later. We would prefer
redirect restore for that. I am documenting a process to do a redirect
restore. We take production backups via Legato.
The big question is that how to get information about tablespace and
containers from the tape backup. A search on this told me that db2ckbkp
is the command to go for. I tested it on a backup residing on unix file
system...

I need to read a tiff Image and change it slightly.
Currently I create a bitmap then I draw the original image and do the
changes.
Since the tiff is very large in size the bitmap takes a huge amount of
memory
Is there anyway to create a bitmap and keep the image compressed?

I'm sending 56kb of GZipped data from sending side over a socket on localhost. The receiving side (at localhost) receives it and needs to unzip it. I receive: EOFException: Unexpected end of ZLib input stream
Sender:
ByteArrayOutputStream b = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
GZIPOutputStream g = new GZIPOutputStream(b);
b.write(bData); /* bData is a byte array of 500k bytes size*/
byte bData2 = b.toByteArray();
g.close();
b.close();

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
