mysql dump into DB2 os400 database

5 New Member
hi all,

I am not an SQL expert but have experience with DB2 on the Iseries/AS400.
I simply want to generate an SQL database in OS400 DB2.
My idea was to create a dump of the MySQL database so I have a script with the create table statements etc.
If I execute this script in OS400 I get all kind of errors refering to incorrect field types, incorrect intial values etc.
Anyone has an idea of conversion programs, or something which can help me to quickly generate this database?
The goal is to run my java applications on DB2 OS400 without changing the code.

thanks.

Hi,

I believe there's no easy way to migrate data from MySQL to DB2, and you may even have to change some code in your java applications. As DB2 told you, there're differences in field definitions, e.g. there's no TEXT type like in MySQL. Instead you'll have to use someting like Varchar(). So you'll have to check and probably adapt the table definitions before setting them up in DB2.

After that, things could be easy. Afaik MySQL is writing backups in form of INSERT statements. With a little luck, you may run them as sql scripts against DB2 without changes.

Regards,

Bernd

P.S.: If you find a solution, please post it.

Hi All, I'm looking at using PHP and MySQL for a particular website application. However, I was a bit concerned that if a PHP script went wrong then it would be possible to accidentally delete or overwrite large chunks of the data in the database which presumably would then be lost. What is the usual procedure for these situations?. Is it possible to back up a database somehow so that data from a previous time can be retrieved?. Ta,...

Has anyone setup DB2 8.1 (fix patch 7) on Windows 2000 to be a DRDA server? I want to have an iSeries with OS400 V5R2 act as a DRDA client to an 8.1 DB2 UDB database hosted on Windows and so it can access the data stored on the windows database. What are the steps to set this up? Also, is this the best way to go about accessing a windows db2 8.1 database from an application running on os400 v5R2 release?

I am a newbie in the world of MySQL. In fact I enabled it in my Linux box only because it is required to run WordPress (the blogging software). I was trying to plan ahead and figure out a way to backup (and restore) a database, should my Linux machine ever goes belly up. I disovered that the databases are stored in subdirectories under /var/lib/mysql. My questions are basically three: (1) Why /var/lib? Why not some /home/mysql or...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers.
