where mycode = 'XXX'
But this query fails. Unknow column mycode in where clause.
why ??? "coalesce() as" doesn't work ?

I am using a clever product called SQL Expert Pro to optimize
problematic SQL statements. It works by generating syntactically
identical variations of the original SQL, finding all unique execution
plans, and batch testing them.
Anyway, it generally turns out that a very odd change dramatically
improves performance (for a PeopleSoft database on SQL Server 7). Run
time goes from 52 seconds to 8 seconds.
The change is to replace a join...

Hi everybody,
VARCHAR has a higher precedence than CHAR. If you have a query
SELECT COALESCE(c1,c2) FROM T1
where c1 is CHAR(5) and c2 is VARCHAR(10), I would expect the return
type to be varchar(10) similiar to UNION. However it turns out to
be CHAR(10). Does anyone know why that is so?

Any ideas on why my the result 'green' row
column DELTA does not yield -1 for?
That is not how I expected COALESCE( ... ) to work.
Every other row for DELTA (including 'black')
comes out the way I expected.
Thanks for considering this,
John G.

If I have an SQL query which returns an aggregate of several decimal fields
like so:
(sum(COALESCE(myDecimal1, 0)+
sum(COALESCE(myDecimal2, 0)+
sum(COALESCE(myDecimal3, 0)) as MyTotal
I get an rounded integer in MyTotal.
However, if I do the following:

This is a short tip describing the sql coalesce function.
Description
COALESCE accepts a comma separated list of parameters and returns
the first value that is not null in that list or null if all the arguments are null.
Thus
COALESCE (a1, a2, a3, ..., an)
will return a1 if a1 is not null, a2 if a1 is null but a2 is not null,
a3 if a1, a2 are null but a3 is not null and so on.

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
