Declared Global Temporary Table on z/os v7

2 New Member
Hi All,

I'm planning to write a stored procedure which will be executed million times a day by many people, and is planning to use Declared Global Temporary Tables. One of the concern: the static SQL statements that referenced the temp tables are incrementally bound at run time (SQL Reference volume 2). Should one be worried about these incremental bind? Will these binds update DB2 Catalog tables? How long with the bind take place? and will it have contention with other sessions that's calling the same stored proc?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, I am creating a global temporary table that is session-specific. I insert a BLOB into this table, and then select the BLOB from this table into a ResultSet. The ResultSet sees this BLOB object, and I am able to get the binary input stream from this blob. However, when I invoke InputStream.read(byte) on this input stream, I get the following exception: java.io.IOException: ORA-01410: invalid ROWID

Scenario: 1) Create a GLOBAL TEMPORARY table and populate it with one (1) row. 2) Join that table to another with about 1 million rows. The join condition selects a few hundred rows. Performance: 4 seconds, the system is doing a full-table scan of the second table, and the Explain Plan output

Hi, we are currently implementing an application running on DB2 V7 on Z/OS using largely COBOL stored procedures, managed using WLM. Some of these stored procedures declared global temporary tables, which are declared with ON COMMIT DELETE ROWS to perform work on and then return these temporary tables to the client (which is a message driven EJB connecting via DB2 connect). The client reads the data in the result sets, creates some XML...

Hi, As I understand it, Declared Global Temporary Tables (DGTTs) have a scope that is session/connection based. Using the same connection, I have discovered that if I declare a DGTT in one stored procedure, then I can't create a second stored procedure that uses the DGTT, as the DGTT is not "visible". The only way around this is to use dynamic SQL in the second stored procedure. In this way (using dynamic sql) i can create and use the...

I am currently running DB2 for Z/OS V7.1. When I try to create and index on a declared temporary table, a -690 SQL return code occurs. My declarations are as below : DECLARE GLOBAL TEMPORARY TABLE SESSION.TEMP_ACCBB ( PLAN_NO CHAR(11) NOT NULL, PLAN_STATE_NO INTEGER NOT NULL, LIFE_INDICATOR CHAR(1) NOT NULL, ...

Hello Ravi, what you want to do is very tricky, but possible. I've had this same problem - we want to identify the top user of tempspace and eventually force him off when using too much space (FS runs full). For temptables (NON-DGTT) you can use db2pd to find the owner (- tcbstats) here the application handle (agent id) is listed. But this won't help for DGTTs, because this information isn't given. --Serge : This would be a nice...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
