restoring DB on test server after alt_obj() fails due to COPY YES

aj
DB2 LUW 8.2 FP14 Red Hat AS 2.1

I went to restore a backup of my production DB on my test/developmental
server. The backup on the prod system was taken /before/ alt_obj() was
used there to do some schema evolution.

The restore on the test box barfed on the roll forward because alt_obj()
uses COPY YES on its LOAD, and the test box did not have the magic data
COPY YES files (apparently they are in ~/sqllib/tmp?).

Willing to try anything, I tried to copy these COPY YES/LOAD data files
from prod to test, but the copy command barfed - some of the data files
are named pipes or something odd?

So this means that whenever I use alt_obj(), I must do DB backup /after/
that before I can restore that DB on my test box.

<heavy sigh>....

Does anyone have a way around this? Any ideas? It would even be
acceptable if the tables associated with the COPY YES data just weren't
restored..

Maybe alt_obj() be persuaded to do a non-recoverable LOAD?

TIA

If your altobj is run immediately after the backup has been taken and
you know that there are no changes to the database between them, you
could run a point-in-time recovery, stopping just before the altobj is run.

If your backup is offline, you can restore it without the rollforward.
Online backups can also be restored with a rollforward to the end of the
backup.

You could also take a second backup after the altobj. I'm assuming you
don't do regular altobjs, so it may not be a big issue.

Hi, postgresql 7.4beta4 on linux and postgresql 7.3.4 on linux We have a database that we routinely backup using "pg_dump -a" We have to do this (dump the data only) because of various characteristics of the database (e.g. the dump file tries to create fks to tables that it hasn't created yet if we export schema + data).

I'm thinking about providing a relatively easy method for users to restore the front end from a backup. The purpose is to allow for restoring if the front end becomes corrupt. Here are some particulars about my app 1) The front end is distributed as a .mde file. 2) Front end uses workgroup security 3) A separate logon form is used to actually launch the front end. 4) My app includes a backup front end form, that backups the front end...

Hello, I have a problem restoring Exchange 2000 files. Our software has an interface to ESEBCLI2.dll for online backup and restore features. Everything works fine with Exchange 2003 and also when backing up Exchange 2000, yet restoring Exchange 2000 gives some problems: A Store is restored: * the restore is started.

We set up a test box and having been trying to move an entire instance from our production server to this one. I have moved all my created dbs using the RESTORE WITH MOVE. Now I am trying to move the Master, Model, and msdb. This is where I am having trouble. On the production box the dbs are stored on D:\mssql$instancename\data. On the test server the data is stored in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\mssql$instancename\data. ...

Does the standard define default values for the format state of an ostream? I would like to be able to put a stream in a standard format state without thinking about how some other routine may have changed the state. I don't see the answer in Stroustrup or in the parashift FAQs. I would like to write a statement like my_ostream.restore_format_state_defaults();

Hello, Every so often, I'm asked to help people recover data from tables that were either dropped or where to much data was DELETEed. The complications related to restoring data are a problem. The SAS users are laughing because they can (to a certain extend) easily go back to an earlier SAS table by simply starting dsm. Of course, a flat file table is different than a relational table; but still, the trouble related to restoring DB2...

I'm working on a restore procedure for the case where all MDF files are missing, but the LDF files are all intact. A full backup is done every 24 hours, and a log backup is done every 3 hours. After restoring the last full + log backups, is it at all possible to use the LDF files to recover data from that point up to a newer point in time? I've found a post which explains how to do this on SQL Server 2000...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
