DB2 backup and connection timeout

I am looking for some insight into a backup problem for an online
database backup performed each night on my Linux Instance (SuSe 9
kernel 2.6) of DB2 DPF 8.2. The backup is initiated using a script
that does a db2_all, first to the catalog partition and then to the
remaining partitions of the cluster. The entire backup takes about a
half hour.

My system is periodically monitored by an application that does a
remote connection using the db2 client on a Unix box. If the
connection is not completed within a specified period of time, a text
message is sent to alert of the slowdown. For some reason, several
minutes after the backup of the catalog partition is done, ie a few
minutes into the backup of the remaining partitions, the connection
process times out. I have tried moving the backup to different time of
night and the behavior is the same.

This appears to happen only since the upgrade to 8.1 FP 11. Is there
something in the behavior of DB2 backup that has changed that might
cause this?

What can be done to eliminate this timeout?

It would be helpful if you provided a little more information.

For example, the DB2 error that you get, and perhaps some/all of the
script that does the checking.

Hi, I am using .net remoting technology. I set up a .net remoting client and server in IIS. When the client calls the server, the server will run a long duration method (30-60seconds). I have a test on it that if the network broken at the time the client have already send the remoting request and waiting for the server, the client side will wait infinitely by default, even if i already set the executionTimeout to 90seconds in...

I am getting this error when I try to back up the larger DB's on my server. The smaller ones back up ok. Is there a parameter I can change to increase this timeout? I have gone into ODBC, Query Analyzer, and SQL server properties and played around with some settings, but nothing seems to work. Any help is appreciated! Phil

After creating a routine to select from past ADODB connection strings, I found that it takes 60 seconds to timeout! I found the Microsoft article below <http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;225859> but wonder if anyone has a work around.

Hallo! I'm working with C# .NET 2.0, implementing Client/Server Applications which are connecting via Network to SQL-Server or Oracle Databases. To stay independent from the underlaying Database I use System.Data.Common.DBConnection and .DBCommand. How can I keep aware from connection losses (network not availeable, db-server not available...)? Are there any strategies to detect this broken connections, and how can I

I notice with PHP if a connection cannot be established to a mysql server with mysql_connect() PHP will timeout and never try the backup server. In this example: $db = mysql_connect('db1.local.net', 'username', 'password'); if (!$db) { $db = mysql_connect('db2.local.net', 'username', 'password'); } This works great and connects to the 2nd database if the 1st one

I have used the visual designer to create a series of DataGridViews populated from SQLServer data. A typical call is: myCountsTableAdapter.Fill(myDataSet.myCounts); My application actually connects to different systems during a run; on some of these the default timeout is adequate, but on one system I get an SQL exception that simply reports "Timeout expired". The default timeout shows as "15" using this line of code.

Occasionally, regular online backup fails with sql0911 reason 68, "lock-timeout" seconds after the command is issued. Normally a second try is successfull. The database is always in use. Can someone technically explain why this happens, which locks (type, scope) prevent a backup to start, and maybe, is there a workaround (not affecting the applications). db is on a 8.2 fp11 level, userexit on, i am backuping online to tsm.

Hello, Please read this all before giving an answer :) I'm doing some troubleshooting on a web application that my company wrote. It's written in asp.net 1.1. The error that the Event viewer gives is: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool. This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool size was reached.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...
