Insert CLOB data (XML file)

I need some help....

I have XML files residing on the database server harddisk. I want to
load those files as CLOB into a table column. The table is defined like
this:

Table_0 (
ID INT
FILE_DATA CLOB
)

I cannot use application to load it... I want to use unix scripting and
sql to convert XML files to CLOB and insert into the table.

Please help me out. Thanks.

Hi, I have a table that contains a huge number of fields, out of which 3 are VARCHAR2(2000). I am using a Orcale 9i with UTF8 char set. The data I am trying to insert is ASCII (English). When I try using a Pro*C program to insert the data, it fails, giving the error ORA-01461. My data is not longer than 2000 char. It neither contains any multibyte character. Why does this happen?

Note, I'm *not* trying to insert an XML document into an XmlType column. I just want to construct an XML document containing the values for many rows, and then use this document to insert all of the rows with a single INSERT command. I want to do this for performance,...
