Can connect to one DB but not another on same server??

Windows XP connected via DSL over a VPN to an AIX server
DB2/6000 8.2.3
Using IBM DB2 ODBC Driver

I can connect fine to a specific DB via an AIX box and a person in the
next cubicle connected the same way as I am can access the database.
Last week I connected fine but some network issues occurred since. I
now can connect to one DB but not another on the same server using the
the same user ID/password. I've had no issues connecting to either DB
for months.

I'm getting the error below:
SQL30081N A communication error has been detected. Communication
protocol
being used: "TCP/IP". Communication API being used: "SOCKETS".
Location
where the error was detected: "nnn.nnn.n. nn". Communication function
detecting the error: "connect". Protocol specific error code(s):
"10061", "*",
"*". SQLSTATE=08001

The IP address, nnn.nnn.n.nn, is my local laptop.

Obviously, the problem is local to my Windows client. Does anyone have
any ideas on what I might check?

Thanks, Jim D.

I deleted and re-created the ODBC driver entry without any change in
result. I also get the same error when testing the connection via ODBC
or CLI in the Configuration Assistant.

I found my problem by comparing the working connection with the problem
DB using the Configuration Assistant. Curiously, the host name was my
local workstation. I changed this to the proper host name and
everything is fine. I have no idea how the host name got changed and,
as the incorect host name was a meaningless collection of letters that
came from the manufacturer, there's no way I could have made the change
manually.

We are trying to determine the easiest (and cheapest) way to get connections for about 50 Win2K workstations on our LAN to DB2 on a z/OS server. We could install DB2 Connect Personal Edition on every workstation, but that would require purchasing a license for each workstation (or, more likely, a site license). We would like to avoid that option. I've heard mixed accounts of what DB2 Connect ENTERPRISE Edition can do. One source says...

HELP - Need to connect to DB2 database on AIX from NT server. Also AS/400 from NT Server -- I am experienced in ORACLE and a novice at DB2. What tools would be the equivalent of Net*8 or SQLNET in ORACLE that would allow me to connect to a database on a remote box (either AIX or AS/400)? I have read that DB2 Connect appears to be the ticket for the Db2 server if it is on AS/400 or OS/390. What if it is on AIX? Does the same tool...

I am makeing a Multicast server client setup and was wondering what the difference is between Socket.Connect, and Socket.Bind. It may be a stupid question, but I was just curious. Because I tried a test, and I can't bind two sockets to the same port/ip but I can connect with one socket, and bind with another to the same ip/port. Thanks

I have a function that simply returns TRUE if it can connect to a particular Sql Server 2005 express, or FALSE if it cannot. I am getting some strange error codes returned when the computer that sql server resides on is not reachable. The error is different depending on the connection string that I use. If I use the following connection string: "server=192.1.1.1; Initial Catalog=master; uid=The_User; password=The_Password; Connect...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
