Hi. I am kind of new to DB2 and to this newsgroup so please bear with
me..
My question is: IBM installation creates 250 4k bufferpools by default.
I want to increase this number to 1000, no problem, and I want to
create another buffer pool and make it 1000 4k pages also. The
documentation says that "once a buffer pool is created, table spaces
can be assigned to it using create tablespace or the alter tablespace"
commands.
Does that mean that the existing table space/s CANNOT use the new
buffer pool? I have a very static, query only, system that is
experiencing slow response so I wanted to add another buffer pool. Any
other suggestions are, ofcourse, very welcome.

Just increase the size of the existing bufferpool: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infoce...n/r0000885.htm
If you are new to DB2 I recommend not to create additional bufferpools
of the same pagesize. Too complicated to tune.
Cheers

This is the feedback I received:
One of his concerns was frequent calls to new and delete, which can

If you have STL containers (like list, vector,...) in
functions as automatic variables, do the nodes that
are put on the containers get buffered so they can be reused
by later container operations?
For example, if I have 10 member methods, and lots of them have
a list <Foo*> when that list is cleared or goes out
of scope, the nodes are deleted (don't worry about deleting the
Foo* themselves, they are just extra pointers to classes in...

hi, we are using db2 udb v8.1 on windows, i try to use the
configuration advisor to get recommendation on the parameter setting,
at first, i give the target memory for DB2 is 80% of the physical
memory, it gives me a recommendation on bufferpool size, so i accept
the change, later on , i found that i gave too much memory to DB2, so
i change the target lower, but the recommendation doesn't change the
buffer pool size accordingly, why is...

In a DB2 V8.1 performance tuning document from a 3rd party vendor, I
found this statement. Can anyone verify this?
"DB2 requires 100 bytes of memory for every buffer pool and extended
storage page that is allocated to a database for use as a descriptor
in the database heap, so the size of the DBHEAP configuration
parameter should be considered before creating large buffer pools. For
example, a 1 gigabyte buffer pool with a page size of 4...

Hi,
I'm developing an application that will support several thousand
simultaneous connections on the server-side. I'm trying to maximize
throughput. The client (WinForms) and server communicate via a socket
connection (no remoting, no ASP.NET). The client sends a message to the
server that contains some instructions and the server responds in an
asynchronous fashion. In other words, the client doesn't block while waiting
for the...

I have several sites running on Windows 2003 Server in true IIS 6 mode
with Application pools. One site has about 9 Virtual Directories in
it that are all configured to run as applications. Each of these have
a dedicated application pool with all different memory settings in the
Memory Recycling area.
The applications are all .Net based applications. They are all pretty
frequently used apps and as a rule of thumb, we assigned more...

Hello All,
IIS 6.0 - I have an application which resides in its own application pool.
Does anyone know if we can create multiple application pools for the same
application?
If we can create multiple application pools to serve a single application's
request will it improve the performance?
Thanks for your suggestions!!

Hi,
I have some questions concerning thread pools. I've marked the
questions by number in the text.
First I'd like to know when which thread pools an application uses. I
know ASP.NET uses the CLR common thread pool. (1a) Is there a way
around this? (1b) Can ASP.NET application have it's own pool? Is there
a setting in IIS for this? (2) If ASP:NET application uses the CLR
common pool is this also true for Web Services running on the...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
