Backup a suspended database with SMS tablespaces possible

Hi all,

a db2 database copy which was splitted from the original during suspend
mode can be initialized with "db2inidb as standby" and you can run "db2
backup" against that copy (being in rollforward state). However, the
docs say :
"If you have only DMS table spaces (database managed space), you can
take a full database backup to offload the overhead of taking a backup
on the production database."
So if for example your SYSCATSPACE is SMS managed you're out of luck -
right ?

Is this restriction still valid ? If yes will it be valid in future
releases ? Someone willing to share some insights on this restriction ?

TIA for any answer
Joachim

I've a question regarding db2 (V8.1) and database backups going to a storage manager like TSM for example. As I can see in the storage manager if I backup the complete database over the TSM API (no tablespace backups) the backup images is stored as a single backup object. Later I will be able to restore the complete database from this image and I will also be able to restore single tablespaces from this backup image as long as I...

hi gurus, now I have to backup and restore a 8 T size db2 database. from two s85 to two 670. the partitions, tablespaces of the db should be redesigned then I plan to use redirected restore. but my concern is, such big size db, I'm afraid something unexpected will destory all the effort. Who have related experience? Can you give some advice? Thanks in advance:)

Hi, I was wondering if there is a way to determine the tablespace id of each tablespace on a backup image. I want to perform a redirected restore pointing the tablespace containers to different locations than the ones defined on the backup image. While I haven't tried it yet I imagine that I could perform a redirected restore of just the catalog table space and then look at the catalog table info to determine the tablespaces.

Dear all, Is it possible to restore some (not all) tablespaces to a new database? We have a full offline backup, and as the manual says, we can restore the whole set of tablespaces to a new database. But, is there any way to restore only some of the tablespaces? thank you in advanced.

Hi all, I have DB2ESE version 8.1 with FP 4 on AIX 5.2. My database used to be 1.1TB. When the DB size is 1.1TB, it takes approximately 7 hours to backup the entire database (online backup). The backup is directed to disk and not tape. Recently, we did data archival by purging some of the records. Now, the size of the database is 500GB plus. That means, only data purged and we never resize the tablespace. Therefore, the allocated...

hi, I am thinking about backup strategy. I have couple of questions for my db2 community brothers. 1. Can i use full online or offline database backup as base for incremental backup for tablespace? For example, if i take backup of database A which contain tablespace X1,X2, can i take full offline or online backup of A and then take incremental backup of X1,X2?

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
