Interesting question. Neither v7 nor FC4 are supported by IBM - you can try
it, but no guarantees.

I'd suggest at least moving up to v8.2 (which is supported). Doesn't change
the fact that FC4 isn't supported, but there may be mention on the DB2
HOWTO on the Linux Documentation Project site on any workarounds that you
may need to get DB2 running on such a machine. Even if it isn't explicitly
mentioned, you may compare with any instructions on getting it running on
RHEL3 or RHEL4, depending on whether FC4 has a 2.4 or 2.6 kernel,
respectively.

It will *probably* work. But IBM isn't guaranteeing it unless it shows up
on the Linux validation site at http://www.ibm.com/db2/linux/validate .

I had recently tried DB2 V8.2.3 ESE with DPF entitled for 90-days on
White Box Enterprise Linux http://www.whiteboxlinux.org which is
another free fork from RedHat (RHEL3 kernel 2.6 32-bit). I just
followed http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/DB2-HOWTO for RHEL3 and didn't have
any serious issue setting up a two-partition database on a dual-CPU
Intel server for some "proof-of-concept" application test purpuses.
Unfortunately, this DB2 trial was recently about to expire so I gave up
this server to another team. BTW, initially, ie back in October last
year, I tried to use FC4 on the same server and found this OS buggy and
unstable, so I switched to WBEL and was happy with it.

According to the "Supported Environment" website, Fedora 4 is supported
for "applicatio n development and client access" for V8.1 and V8.2. Our
DB2 server is an OS/2 box and therefor can't be upgraded to V8.x. I have
read conflicting reports as to whether V8.x clients can access a V7.x
server, so I guess I am actually asking if a V8.x client installed on
Fedora 4 can access a V7.x server and if not, can I install a V7.x
client on a Fedora 4 (kernel 2.6) system.

Sorry if this is too confusing as I am working on my first cup of
coffee. I should know better!

Thanks,
-Philip

See
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infoce...t/r0009731.htm
for info on client/server compatibility:

"""
1. A DB2 Universal Database Version 7 server must be configured as a
DRDA application server (AS). This is necessary when you have a Version
8 32-bit client working with a Version 7 32-bit server; or, when you
have a Version 8 64-bit client working with a Version 7 64-bit server.
....
7. When you have a Version 8 32-bit client working with a Version 7
32-bit server, or when you have a Version 8 64-bit client working with
a Version 7 64-bit server, the DB2 Universal Database Version 7 server
must be at a FixPak 8 or later level. The db2updv7 utility must be run
on the server in order for it to be accessible from a DB2 Universal
Database Version 8 client. Once this utility is run on a database, this
database cannot be used with an instance that is at an earlier FixPak
level.
"""

Unfortunately I'm not sure where the docs are that tell you how to
configure the V7 server as a DRDA AS server...

As far as Fedora Core 4 goes, it requires you to install the
compatibility libraries and disable SELinux, otherwise it works
reasonably well with DB2 Version 8. I have had a rough patch for the
DB2 HOWTO lined up for a few months now...

I have an extension in C++, which I compile as a module for php 4.3.11. I am using PHP 4.3.11 on Fedora Core 4, which has gcc 4 instead of gcc 3.2. Fedora Core 4 normally comes with PHP 5, but I removed it and installed PHP 4.3.11 from source, so that I didn't have to figure out problems I had with my extension and php 5. After a number of calls to my extension, there is one call to function (which has been called before) in which the...

Several people asked me for the following HOWTO, so I decided to post it here (though it is still very 'alpha' and might contain many (?) mistakes; didn't test what I wrote, but wrote it - more or less - during my own installation of Python 2.3 on Fedora Core 1 Linux for a friend of mine). Anyway, HTH, L.

Help desparately required..........

Hello, everybody Thanks to Lamar Owen that I downloaded the rpms for Fedora Core 1 which I expected all the time after 7.4 was released. But I found a somewhat weird problem with it. My fedora installation has no postgresql at all, then I installed all rpms of 7.4, and then run "service postgresql start" with root, I noticed that the initdb is executed correctly, and I can access it with psql successfully, all seem good. But, when I...

Hello pgsql-general, It appears 7.4 is not published in all the usual places so I was wondering if there's a yum repository with updated packages available and if not then what's the approach that will cause the least amount of pain? I do realize I'll need to dump/restore, just want some expert advice on how to upgrade the installation without breaking it. Thanks!

Install IBM DB2 on Fedora Core 5 (Bordeaux) author: maluyao RHCE. maluyao@NOSPAMgmail.com(remove NOSPAM) http://www.teenblog.org/tiantian/ (Chinese Version) Pre-installation notes: Disable selinux is recommended. In the official document, pdksh should be installed. In Fedora Core 5, pdksh package is replaced by zsh package. So you need to install it .

Hi All I'm trying to set up PHP with Microsoft SQL Server support on Fedora Core 5. I've tried using the FreeTDS libraries, and a connect with tsql works fine. I've a little test PHP file that simply connects to a SQL Server instance, executes a simple query and returns. If I run php -f /var/www/html/testSqlServer.php it works. (I've run

I've been installing Python and its supporting packages on a dedicated server with Fedora Core 6 for about a day now. This is a standard dedicated rackmount server in a colocation facility, controlled via Plesk control panel, and turned over to me with Fedora Core 6 in an empty state. This is the standard way you get a server in a colo today. Bringing Python up in this completely clean environment is a huge hassle, and it doesn't...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...
