On the subject of Data Warehouses, Data Cubes & OLAP….
I would like to speak frankly about Data Warehouses, Data Cubes and
OLAP (on-line analytical processing). Has it dawned on anyone else
that these buzz words were created by some geek who decided to take a
stab at marketing? Knowing that to the backwoods manager who knows
little of technology that new innovative names for old concepts would
help to sale their products.
I mean...

I am running DB2 7.2 FP8e with the Data Warehouse Center (using Tivoli Data
Warehouse). Everything was humming along fine. I defragged all my drives
without bringing DB2 down (should have known better). When I rebooted, the
vwkernel and vwlogger services were gone. Not listed at all, not in the
registry. I could open a command prompt, go to SQLLIB\BIN and run them
manually, so I knew it wasn't hopeless. I got a registry export (for...

I just took over a v8.1 database that is at Fixpack 2. I know that
need to apply a later fixpack, probably FP6.
My question is how does this affect Data Warehouse Center? I have
heard that if you upgrade FP's on DB2 that you *have to* upgrade FP's
on Data Warehouse Center. I guess my confusion is that I can find no
Fixpacks listed on the DB2 website for this product. Am I looking in
the wrong place, or is DWC upgraded with the DB2...

We have installed DB2 Data Warehouse manager on an AIX box. I must say
it has been a frustrating struggle. Our current problem is getting the
Cube View Control center running from the box using xserver. Does
anyone know how to do it? It was easy on the windows client as they
have a special download for the fixpak.
This raises the other question why do the Windows fixpaks have separate
entries for data warehousing components, AS400...

We are converting a data warehouse to a Unicode database to get ready
for multilingual support. If we will have 95% of our data in English
as we currently do, and less than 5% in other foreign languages
including Japanese, it appears as if we would be best off using
codepage of 1208 and UTF-8. We are thinking we would need to expand
our 'char' and 'varchar' datatypes by four times to accommadate the
Japanese data. Using 'varchar' should...

Ok, so I'm semi-new to .NET, having done everything manually with SQL code
back in VB6. So before I program this up completely manually again, I thought
I'd ask for better ways to think through this problem.
We have several client machines, and a central data warehousing server. Each
machine may contain hundreds of surveys, and they all are sent to the central
server. Only they can never be networked together, forcing us to use files. I...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
