DB2 ODBC connection timeout???

DB2ers,

Our Windows application connects to any DB2 server using the ODBC
driver.

It seems there are two ODBC drivers that IBM provides - DB Connect and
DB2 Runtime Client. We have tested our product well with DB2 runtime
client and it seems to work great. However, one of our customers is
using DB Connect 7.1 as the ODBC driver. Although our product seems to
be able to connect to the server, query execution behavior is
inconsitent. Many times, it simply returns an error "the connection is
dead." We have not been able to figure out the pattern.

I have googled all over to see "the connection is dead" issue. One post
suggeted that DB Connect 8 with FixPack 3 fixes some issues. However, I
am wondering if anyone has any insight on why one could be getting this
problem.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Just to clarify:
There is only one ODBC driver that IBM provides.

DB2 Connect is a piece of middleware to enable host connections. That
you need for any DB2 z/OS connection.
DB2 runtime client standalone cannot do that, only if you connect via a
DB2 Connect Server gateway.

We moved to DB2 Client V8 Fixpak 7 and did not encounter any problems
like that using a connect gateway.

The database you are connecting too: which version is it and is that on
z/OS or LUW ?
Your client code is based on V8 or V7 of DB2 ?
Remember:

For Version 8 client applications you will need a Version 8 DB2 connect
as well, it is not supported with V7 Connect.

I've noticed a few times yesterday I recived this error on my web server: SQL Server does not exist or access denied. I know for sure the server is running and at the time was under a load of about 2,900 page views for the hour. By far not my largest audience. What could cause this? Is ODBC having some issues?

Hi Recently I did some DB2 and ODBC coding in Visual FoxPro. I bumped on a problem I cannot resolve. When I issue a delete statement that deletes no rows (no rows qualify for the WHERE conditions), DB2 raises SQL0100W warning with SQLSTATE=02000. The same happens when issuing an insert with select clause (insert into .... select from ...) when no rows are fetched by the select clause.

One of our clients has reported a problem. Everything was working fine on Monday, but since Tuesday all is going wrong. The sysadmin assures me that there have been no changes to the network, or the servers. Three applications, one back-end database server (SQL Server 2000 with all service packs etc.). APP 1: Access 2000 database APP 2: ASP.NET (VS 2003)

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
