Hi,
I have gone through the snapshot API. I need to use it for finding
location of database files, tablespace containers etc on a remote
machine. These parameters are present in the response. However, for
getting only some paramters, I get a huge response, with many
parameters that I do not need (mostly many are performance parameters).
How long can the snapshot response be, and can it considerably affect
performance?
Thanks in Advance,
Tejas 3 1708

You could use the snapshat table functions and query those with SQL. That
allows you to filter out only those information you are really interested
in.

Knut,
Thanks a lot dor the reply. I can use these tables, but sadly there are
only available after version 8.1. For earlier versions, I need to use
the API's. I just wanted to know what is the average size of snapshot
data returned( is it in order of KB's or MB's ?)
Thanks,
Tejas
That all depends on the size of your system and the limiting parameters
you pass to the snapshot API (ie, for only this
application/database/etc). There is no way to answer this question, as
it is totally dependant on your system and intended monitor query.
The snapshot APIs do include a sizing function (GetSnapshotSz, or
something like that) that you call exactly how you'd call the snapshot
API, but it will return the estimated size of memory required for the
snapshot in question. Please read the monitor documentation for more
details.

We are migrating a customer from Version 7.1 FP3, to Version 8.2 (8.1 FP8).
For the most part, things are faster, but there is one query that is
much much slower, and it is a query that is used all the time.
select ATTR1,ATTR2,ATTR3,ATTR4 from physical.part_list
where S_PART_NUMBER like '%KJS%'
The widlcard before and after seems to be hosing it, but for this
particular piece of the application, this type of query is neccessary.

i am about to release an access database (all tables and front end are
in ms access 2000), where certain trustworthy users wish to make their
own read-only queries for flexibility in reporting.
in oracle and ms sqlserver we can create read only views that the
users cannot change permissions on. the users can then link these
views to their access front ends and query from them.

Hello grp!
i'm using INNODB tables which are using frequently .
if i fire a SELECT query which fetch major part of table it usually
take 10-20 seconds to complete.
in mean time if any UPDATE qry comes for a perticular row which is part
of SELECT qry i want to know that whether UPDATE will wait for
completing SELECT qry or not,
or it simply executing without bothering SELECT qry .

Hello all,
I am new at SQL Server 2005 and have been reading everything I canfind
about the new optimistic concurrency control mechanisms. As far as I
can tell, the Snapshot Isolation Level is based avoids the use of
shared locks using rowversioning instead.
To control rowversions in SQL Server 2000 I was using an extra column
in each table containing a rowversion datatype. What i do with this is

I have a query that returns different results (3508 rows for snapshot,
6288 for dynaset) and that is the only thing I change to get the
different results. When I try to make a table from the query, it
makes 3508 rows. I also know that there are 6288 unique rows in the
results. Is there some configuration choice that is causing the
snapshot version to return the wrong row count?
Thanks for your help on this one. If it wasn't that the...

I have a report with it's source from a query. The query calls data

I presently run a macro that:
1) runs a query where User has to input a value for field and
2) prints/saves a report in snapshot view (i have to manually type in file name)

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
