db2cc/db2ce on Linux

Using version 8.1 under a linux shell, I can run db2 CLP as a certain user.
But under X-windows (KDE) as the same user, I cannot run db2ce, the command
editor GUI. I receive a "SQL1092N" error saying I don't have privileges.

I am new to db2, having worked in Oracle for the last 10 years. Any help
would be appreciated.

You can force compatibility mode by setting the environment variable...

In linux, I cannot connect using the db2cc. It is an SAP demo application running on db2/Linux. How can I find out which users have this authority, given that I have what appears to be a general UNIX account? The SAP documentation I have says that it is a DBA account, but it doesn't seem to be the case.
