V8.2 FP1 automatic startup

I have been reviewing manuals and it appears that version 8 does not
support the registry variable DB2AUTOSTART. From what I can tell you
should use the db2fm command to start the instances which allows for
fault monitoring of the instance.

Does anyone have a better solution to automatically restarting all DB2
instances on an IBM AIX server after a reboot than writing a script to
list the instances installed on the server and then issuing the db2fm
command for each instance?

I have attempted to find recommedations in the DB2 manuals, Info
Center, and this group but haven't really found anything.

I never used it, but look into "db2iauto -on <instance>" and see if it
works.

DB2AUTOSTART=YE S works perfectly happily.

You just need to ensure that db2fmcd is running. On Linux the standard
install puts the following into /etc/inittab -

# end of /etc/inittab
fmc:2345:respaw n:/opt/IBM/db2/V8.1/bin/db2fmcd #DB2 Fault Monitor
Coordinator

DB2 on my laptop starts happily every day with that.

Phil,

Thanks for the response. I am running DB2 on an IBM AIX server running
AIX 5.3 64-bit. I have the DB2AUTOSTART set to YES as you can see
below.

$ db2set -all
[i] DB2_EVALUNCOMMI TTED=ON
[i] DB2COMM=tcpip
[i] DB2AUTOSTART=YE S
[g] DB2SYSTEM=dalpd i6
[g] DB2ADMINSERVER= dasusr

I have verified that the db2fmcd is running but the instances did
start. Here is a link to the IBM website that states V8 does not
support DB2AUTOSTART.

http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview...=utf-8&lang=en

The DB2AUTOSTART appears to work correctly on my servers running V8.1
in 32-bit mode. I noticed an APAR for the SUN OS in 64-bit mode where
the instances would not start automatically and wonder if I am seeing a
bug or the option has been desupported with V8.2. Thanks for your
reply and I post any updates.

Keith,

Thanks for the response. I read up on this command and it looks like
it may work. Appears it is only available on UNIX from the
documentation. I will give it a try and let you know. Thanks again.

I set this parameter on all instances without error and rebooted the
server. Unfortunately none of the instances started. Only the DAS
instance and the db2fmcd process started. Don't know where to go from
here.

Does anyone else have a suggestion?

Did you use db2iauto or just set DB2AUTOSTART?

I used db2iauto on all instances according to the documentation. The
command appeared to run correctly with no errors reported. I rebooted
the server and none of the instances restarted except for the DAS.

I'm running Oracle 8.1.7.4.1 on W2K and have the services for my oracle instances set to automatically startup and shutdown with the W2K server. Unfortunately, neither is working. Nothing gets logged in my alert file for the shutdown or startup, however, the databases are down and when I manually start them up, the alert log reveals a crash recovery. I've verified the settings in the registry for automatic shutdown and startup. I've...

I currently have created a C# program that automatically updates an SQL database once everyday. It's an application that I manually start. I want make it so that if the (Windows 2003) server reboots the program automatically starts up. What's the best method to do this? Creating a service I guess would be one option???? BTW, I have created other programs that ran on a daily basis by having them run as a scheduled task job. However I...

Hi Everybody I still have plenty of databases written in Access 2000 although I would like to write future databases in Access 2003. Assuming I have both versions on the same machine, is it possible to have the correct version of Access start according to whether the .mdb file is written in 2000 or 2003? Thanks in a advance.

I'm running a desktop under Win2k sp4. With a Linksys router. I have wireless connectivity to another win2k desktop and a winXP laptop. TCP/IP with NetBIOS activated on all does the trick. Has anyone created an elegant way to automate database activation on instance startup? I come across a number of client sites that have DB2 installed because it was sold embedded with another piece of software. The installer activates automatic utilities, but are surprised when there are no backups or runstats run at night. They define a window for utilities off hours, but there are no user connections at that time activate the...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
