ERROR:Could not switch current DB2INSTANCE to "db2inst1"

Help - Please! I am trying to run the V8 db2setup script *again* (maybe for
the third or fourth time) and it will not re-create the sqllib directory. It
always stops with this error: ERROR:Could not switch current DB2INSTANCE to
"db2inst1". The return code is "-2029059916".

Then it follows with : ERROR:DBI1122E Instance db2inst1 cannot be updated.
In between attempts we have uninstalled all DB2 products (using SMIT) - we
have killed off all DB2 processes - we have removed the old DAS and SQLLIB
directories - and I even ran a /usr/sbin/slibclean script. What could be
wrong? Is there something truely running that we can't see? How can I get a
clean environment to try the install again?

Try removing /var/db2/v81. That may help.

you may also try removing the whole user accounts and group entries
from this machine. although not related to the above, but also remove
the port entries from the /etc/services file. logout and relogin may be
a good idea, just to make sure the environment has been re-initialised
properly. move/remove the old db2setup related log/lock files in /tmp
to some other location, so that fresh log/lock files are opened.

After your steps above having killed al db2 processes have you run ipcs
command
eg ipcs | grep -i db2inst1
if there are and non directory ipcs keys use ipcrm to clean up.
Before removing DAS or sqllib directories use db2ilist , db2idrop
commands as appropriate.
