All,
What do you recommend as the best type of field for a timestamp in a MySQL
database? I've considered varchar(10) or INT but I'm not sure what is the
best, most efficient, and most reliable field type.
Thanks.

How do you convert a user inputted date to a unix timestamp before
insterting it into your database? I have a form, with a textfield for
a date that the user inputs in the format mm-dd-yyyy and three dropdow
boxes for hours, minutes, and AM/PM. All of these need to be considered
together and converted to one Unix Timestamp and then inserted...

Hi
I'm interested in using the timestamp data type & I have some questions.
As far as I can understand the contant of a timestamp column is a binary
value.
Is there any connection between that value and a valid date (as the word
timestamp means) or is it a left over from the days when the timestamp
value really was a datetime type (so it...

Hi All
I know an SQL Server timestamp seems to be as useful as rocking horse for
show jumping, but I'm hoping you know a 'fudge' to get me round a problem or
at least confirm that it isn't possible.
I have 2 tables, one called ACCOUNTS and one called STOCK.
These tables have the usual ints, varchars, etc and have a timestamp field
as...

Folks,
I have several tables which I would like to record when a record has
been inserted or updated (say, for example, using the unix timestamp).
Is there a method whereby on every insert or update, that I can have a
column automatically assigned a date value?
My guess is no - but I thought I'd ask before I re-invent the wheel by...

Is there any reason to have a row that is the PK/Identity and a row
that is datatype Timestamp in the same table?
Does this in any way help speeding up row updates?
Thanks,

Dear NG,
As expected, when I went to implement TIMESTAMP, I failed. With the help of
Kevin Yu,
I got the 2 code segments at the bottom working using a WHERE clause that
checks all
columns. SQL does not like my use of TIMESTAMP. First, notice that I have
used
"string" type data to hold the TIMESTAMP column in C#. Second, the Primary...
