content manager - help

Hello,

I applogize in advance for my lack of understanding and the lack of
information I'm about to provide. I am out of my element and I'm
hoping that someone here can help point me in the right direction.

I have a customer who has images and index data for those images. I
would like to extract the data and load it into a SQL Server database
and I would like to extract the images and store them as tiff or jpeg
files.

My problem starts with the fact that my customer doesn't know really
WHAT they have or how to access it. What they have told me is that
they have an AS/400, DB2 version 5.3 and Content Manager version 5.3.
They say that the images are stored in Content Manager. More than
that, they haven't been able to tell me.

I know nothing about IBM products (although I'm currently trying to
give myself a crash course), I don't currently have physical access to
the machine (it is 2 states away) and I don't really know where to
start.

Any ideas on how I go about getting to the data and images?
Are there ODBC drivers that I can use to connect up to the database?
What additional information should I be providing to help track this
down?

Hi Cindy -

CM is a product that has undergone a lot of evolution over the years; 5
is pretty old. Technically, the answer is yes, the data is in content
manager, and should be extractable. Here are some questions that might
determine how this can happen - first, where are the objects (i.e.
Documents)? Second, what are the versions of DB2 on the 400. Third,
how much raw data are we talking about?

What makes this a little hazardous is that V5 has been out of support
for a long time. As time goes on, the different parts of CM can get
out of synch with each other, unless they have been performing all of
the mainteance all along. As a point of reference, support for V7 ends
in September 2005.
