Mirroring to remote server

Hi,

I'm a DB2 newbie so please don't be too harsh :)

I'd like to replicate a DB2 database to a remote server which will be
used for disaster recovery. What I'd like to know is: what options are
available to achieve this?

The data doesn't have to be absolutely up-to-date. What we're thinking
at the moment is a cron-job which runs "db2move EXPORT" every night
and then copy the IXF files to the remote server where we can run
"db2move IMPORT" if necessary. However I can't help but feel that we
can do better than this, if only I know anything about DB2!

Thanks in advance for your advice,

Michael

there are several ways, take a look at the "Data Recovery and High
Availability Guide and Reference", available at

http://www-306.ibm.com/software/data...manualsv8.html

Michael,

try with Version 8.2 the new "hadr" function.
You have to setup a standby system with log-shipping.

look for "setting up high availibility disaster"
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infoce...help/index.jsp

Hi,

I got the impression, things are mixed up a little bit.

hadr ist basically log-buffer shipping.

log-shipping is an alternate way for desaster recovery scenarios and
works with older DB2-Versions also.

I would use hadr for _real_ HA-Environments as it allows very short outages.

As there are no recommendations like this in this particular case, I
would prefer log-shipping as this works with pre-8.2 UDB and is quite
easy to setup.

Finally, if you need to have a "working copy" on the remote server which
is accessible by other applications you would need to set up replication.

There is a nice presentation titled "Designing and Building 24x7
applications using DB2" hold by Dale McInnis at IDUG Europe 2004. A nice
decision matrix when to use which technology is included.

best regards,

Norbert

Has anyone enabled log mirroring under DB2 v8 on AIX 4.3.3 or 5.? and if so are you archiving these mirrored logs to TSM? Is this possible? If so is there any sample code for the user exit and mirrored logging? Thanks

I thought I had seen something that indicated that v8 was going to provide a means to mirror databases without needing all the triggers etc. I downloaded beta 3 but couldn't see anything that would do this. My goal is to mirror a database from one server to another, hopefully from the logs so that there is nothing added to the database. The mirrored db will be used by the remote server in a read-only fashion and will become read-write if...

I'm devlving into 2005 and specifically mirroring. Having read the following article ( http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/sql/2005/dbmirror.mspx ), is mirroring a sensible option as it indicates that it should not be used in a production environment, yet the SQL2005 seminars I've been to indicate that this is a worthy option. Do we also need a witness server, or can this be done (sensibly) with two SQL2005 servers ?

We have a sql server 2000 sp3 server on a win2k3 server standard edition. This is on dell hardware with a dell scsi dasd enclosure directly attached. We want to duplicate the hardware and replicate or mirror the database to the backup server and do a manual or automatic failover in case of outage(more than likely manual). Wondering right now if replication - with say software like doubletake - is preferred over sql database mirroring or...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
