Usage of DB2 8.1 FP4 compression APIs

Hi,

Has anybody tried using compression APIs given in DB2 8.1 FP4? I would
like to get more info on that. If you haven't tried it, but have some
documentation about its usage, then please let me know about it as
well.

Thanks and Regards,

Sandeep.

Are you talking about using the supplied DB2 backup compression routine or
substituting your own compression routine?

Hi,

Yes, I want to use backup image compressed using IBM DB2's native
backup compression routines. Want to use API functions given by DB2 to
read compressed backup image.

Thanks and Regards,

Sandeep.

So you want to read the DB2 backup file directly with an application
program, and not just restore a DB2 backup taken with compression? I don't
know anything about how to read a backup file with an application program,
with or without compression.

Have you looked into the db2ckbkp utility?

Ok. Have you or anybody on this group used custom compression for DB2
backups? Please let me know the steps to do this.

I wrote a simple program in VB6 to copy all the files from a directory on a CD-ROM to my hard disk. There are about 10 files, each about 30MB. The program uses Get and Put to get data from the CD into a buffer and then put it into the disk. See code below. It works, but it slows down drastically before it copies all the files. Windows Task Manager shows the CPU usage gradually increasing as the files are copied, until it reaches 100...

I'd like to keep at least 50% of the cpu free while doing bz2 file compression. Currently, bz2 compression takes between 80 & 100 percent of the cpu and the Windows GUI becomes almost useless. How can I lower the strain on the cpu and still do compression? I'm willing for the compression process to take longer. Thanks, Brad

I have a program that generates a custom bimap every 50ms. Which is slow, but no way to make it faster. Now I want to keep it generating as fast as possible (which is 50 ms). But I have to store these images somewhere. The only place I can think of is ram. What effect would so many bitmaps have on memory usage (maybe tens of thousands). Im imagining it memory usage would be unaccaptable. Am I wrong? How big is one bitmap object in memory?...

Hi, We are in the process of migrating from VS 6.0 to VS .NET 2003. Our code base in VS 6.0 is mainly C++. As a first step we do _not_ want to use the .NET framework features, but just continue to use unmanaged C++ code. We are only looking to use the more standard-compliant C++ compiler, usage of Boost libraries etc. Is there any way to disable / prevent the usage (intentional / deliberate) of any .NET features? By features, I mean...

Hello Group, I am writing a http client and reading a web page from the server. The page can be compressed in any of the format namely; gzip or deflate or compress. My client reads the page in chunks from the socket and then passes on the decompressed data to the user. I am makeing use of zlib APIs to decompress the data read from the server.

Hi all, I'm working on a data warehouse split into 16 partitions. Whenever we run a query that involves a non-indexed predicate, the CPU hits 100% (mainly system CPU when checked with iostat). Anyone else experienced similar ? Is this correct, or is it a bug / config issue ? Example query Select * from table_a where non_indexed_column = 'AA' It's DB2V8 FP13 on Solaris, I get the same results on Solaris 8 or Solaris 10, and with ZFS...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
