Max record size?

I was looking at DB2 SQL reference books by IBM and saw the maxium
size limits on CHAR, VARCHAR and other data types.

Is there a similar limit on the total number of bytes per row? In
other words, what is the maximum number of bytes that a table can have
per record?

Thanks in advance!

A row has to fit on a page. So it depends on what page size is defined for
the tablespace that the table is utilizing (either explicitly or by
default). The largest page size is about 32K (with room needed for page and
row overhead). Certain kinds of large objects can be stored by DB2 that are
larger than 32K (which I assume you know about), but these not stored in a
normal tablespace.

DB2 limits are documented in Appendix A SQL Limits. of the "SQL Reference
Vol 1".

Hi, I am working on converting Informix database to Postgre. I have one question for fetching records using PostgreSQL. The record I am fetching is a variable size text string. Before fetching the record, a preallocated static buffer size will have to be declared beforehand in the declaration section. Since the record sizes vary a lot, instead of using the static buffer, is there a dynamic way to fetch these records? Informix (Oracle...

I'm having problem with using DAO recordset to append record into a table and subsequent code to update other tables in a transaction. The MDB is Access 2000 with the latest service pack of JET 4. The system is client/server, multiusers based. The MDBs are using record locking. Here is part of the code: Dim wkSpace As Workspace, db As Database Dim rstTrans As DAO.Recordset Set wkSpace = DBEngine.Workspaces(0)

Hi, I'm writing a program in Visual C# 2005 Professional Edition. This program connects to a SQL Server 2005 database called "Generations" (in which there is only one table, called "Generations"), and it allows the user to add, edit and delete the various records of the table. "Generations" table has the following fields: "IDPerson", NamePerson", "AgePerson" and "IDParent". A record contains the information about a person (his name, his...

Setup: I only have one database with one table in it. The first page has a form that adds a record (w/ 6 fields in it) to the mySQL database's lone table via PHP. This works fine. I also have a PHP table that displays all records in my database on this same page. This too works fine. I have my table set up so that there is a 7th field, called "rid" to act as a "record id" or unique identifying field. This is primary and auto-incremented. There...

Anyone: I have a simple MSAccess DB which was created from an old ASCII flatfile. It works fine except for something that just started happening. I'll enter info in a record, save the record, and try to move to another record and get an Access error "Record is too large". The record is only half filled, with many empty fields. If I remove the added data or delete some older data, then it saves ok and works fine again. Whenever I'm...

Hello, First I would like to say thank you all for your help in the past. I am stumped again. I am creating an e-commerce system and I want to be able to upload images to the server and assign them to products. For the product ID, I have an auto increment value for the primary key to avoid duplicate item numbers. Since I do not want to pass all of my record values to my image upload program (when I write it), I assume to just submit...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
