I don't think Mandrake is on the list. You're also installing in
French/Francais - is that what you wanted? You can choose a different
language here:

http://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp...S_TACT=&S_CMP=

I had the same dependency problems when installing DB2 V8.1 on a supported
Linux distribution (RH 8). Many of the IBM supplied scripts don't work using
the bash shell, which is the default for most Linux's. This is a very
frustrating situation since IBM claims to be promoting Linux. I ended up
using the GUI install.

Mark, can you give us some specifics (or did you open a PMR/problem #
with IBM?) - did the problems go away when using pdksh?

That's strange ... since I insist on using bash on Linux simply because
it's standard. Most of our machines don't even have pdksh installed...

I'm really curious to the original poster where the image came from -
an exact url would be ideal so that we could try to reproduce it. I
would not expect the GUI install to do any better.

Note that the exact problem is that rpm is unable to "read manifest"
which implies that the RPM file is damaged somehow. The dependency
failures after that are simply cascading problems from IBM_db2rte81
failing to install.

I got the GUI install to work with the same code, so it does not sound like
the RPM file was damaged.

Mark A wrote:

I did not open a PMR because it was the evaluation code for Linux. I simply
used the Version 8.1 GUI install instead and it worked fine (except for the
TOOLS database, which does not seem to work correctly if created with the
initial install sequence).

I did not try pdksh on the DB2 install since pdksh was not installed on the
Linux box I used. (and at that time I did not realize the shell might be the
problem). I later installed pdksh (but not from Red Hat) to try and get the
killdb2 script (not sure if that is the correct name) to work, but I was
unsuccessful in that also, although I am not a Linux or UNIX system
administrator.

As someone else mentioned, bash is the default shell on Linux (and usually
the only one installed), and if IBM wants people to have a good experience
with DB2 on Linux, it needs to supply all scripts so they run on the bash
shell. I had no serious problem working with the DB2 GUI on the evaluation
box, but for serious production work people probably want to use DB2
supplied scripts, especially when working with a lot of remote servers.
