I need help trying to optimize a SQL query. I am using Oracle 8i.
I have a table with about 1.2 million records, lets call it T1. I am
doing a join from another table, lets say T2 which has a restriction
on it. T2's id is a foreign key on T1.
T1 also has a index on
T2id2T1id T1 (T1.t2Id, T1.id)
What happens is if I retrive just the T1.id from the query, it uses

I'm writing a Telnet Server application using
Asynchronous sockets.
I spawn a listener thread to handel incomming connections
and create a separate client socket for each new
connection.
I then set the new client socket to BeginReceive().
My problem: When two client socket connections send data

I'm trying to determine if I need to make my application multi-threaded, or
if it can be done with asynchronous programming. I realize that asynch calls
do create a new thread in the background, but when they come back, they
return to the thread that launched them, is that correct? If I go
multi-threaded, then I just need to spawn a new thread for each new
connection, right?
What I'm doing here is making a service that accepts...

Hi all,
I've got a server that handles a relatively high number of concurrent
transactions (on the magnitude of 1000's per second). Client
applications establish socket connections with the server. Data is
sent and received over these connections using the asynchronous model.
The server is currently in beta testing. Sporadically over the course
of the day, I'll observe the thread count on the process (via perfmon)
start climbing....

Hi,
I am using asynchronous socket (BeginAccept for example).
I tried to name each thread I am using but threads created by
asynchronous Socket functions (like BeginAccept) creates "anonymous"
threads.
I named the thread (see sample code below) in Accept callback started by
BeginAccept but all connections accepted run in a thread that has the
same name !
So, even a new thread is not started by BeginAccept, even my naming is

We are using DB2 UDB version 8.1 fp7 & fp9 on AIX 5.2.
On our databases we do massive inserts and deletes (millions of rows).
The performance is dramatically reduced because of pseudo deleted keys.
In a 10 minutes it goes from 18000 transaction per minute to 9000 and
lower.
When an index reorg with CLEANUP ONLY PAGES is executed, the number of
transactions climbs again. But a few minutes later it drops again to
9000.
We have to run the...

I am writing an application that uses asynchronous sockets to get data over
ethernet from embedded devices, up to 30 concurrent devices.(These devices
are written in C).
My application implements an asychronous socket server while the embedded
devices are the clients
When the data comes in over the socket it is eventually passed into a
message queue.

Hi, I'm writing my own implementation of the Gnutella P2P protocol
using C#. I have implemented it using BeginReceive and EndReceive
calls so as not to block when waiting for data from the supernode.
Everything I have written works fine sending and receiving
uncompressed data. But now I want to implement compression using the
deflate algorithm as the Gnutella protocol accepts:
Accept-Encoding: deflate
Content-Encoding: deflate
in the...

Asynchronous I/O is said to be using native completion port. However,
i checked rotor2.0 code, it seems not
in stream.cs. BeginRead is defined in below way. In my understanding,
If BeginInvoke is used, the task is queued; and when there is free
worker thread in ThreadPool, the task is performed in specified worker
thread. Then, Asynchronous I/O doesn't save thread in ThreadPool. Is
my understanding correct?

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
