As a self-taught MS Access developer how would I label myself?

1 New Member
I've been programming in Access for over 10 years. I've got ODBC, DAO, ADO and Automation to Excel & Word down packed. I use a lot of API calls in my Db's with little to no exceptions. Queries, reports, charts, pivot tables no problem. VBA is my first love. (VB/VB.Net my mistress) There's not much I can't program Access to do. The meat of this question is, with no certifications, or any type of degree what label can I say I am like when I freelance or apply for work on Access Db jobs? Everybody has a title, I have the skills but am ignorant of the industry. Can you help me?

In your situation, you really cannot use any title, except perhaps, the generic "Consultant ."

For example, I have most of what you have and then some (basically almost double the years); however, the only certification(s ) I have are for my primary which is in Chemistry, and even then I rarely use them as they are not PhD thus come across as somewhat, well, self-important unless they are needed to certify to Government agency or a customer requests certifications.

You can look into certification programs that might be offered by a local university (call them, they can usually direct you to the right sources) or something like what is offered by Microsoft: Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS)

BE VERY CAREFUL with any of the internet offers, there are a lot of valid programs out there; however, there are a lot of roaches wating for the unsuspecting victim!

(also, I'm moving this to the career advice forum.)

Hi all, I'm interested in getting the Access Developer's edition. Here's my question: where do I go to get it? At Microsoft, there's a Access 2003 Developer's Extensions package, as well as some other packages with mention the .Net framework. ($499 was the price tag on that, which was what I was expecting for the Developer's edition of Access.) Also, I have purchased a copy of Visual C# .Net Standard edition and I hope to

We have a database that we would want to deploy among 6-10 users to access. They don't need to edit the design of the application, but I would need to be able to customize the application on occasion to met some of the users requirements. We were considering purchasing Access for each user, but I was wondering if the Access Developer's version would be sufficient for our needs. What are the pros/cons for using the Developer's Edition...

One of my customers is about to create several new positions for internal Access Developers. These are not professional developers who could sell their services on the open market, but more like advanced user support people who can develop simple databases for their users. I've been coaching one of these guys and have got him to the stage where he's able to generate Word and Excel documents and then attach them to Outlook email messages....

Hi Newsgroup! I know many of you must have bought the Access Developer's Handbook and used the Tagged Values class, so perhaps I can ask someone to check something. On page 303, it describes the Add method of the class, and claims it returns the TaggedValue item that was added. However, as far as I can see, it does not provide a return value (despite being a function rather than a sub) so cannot work as advertised. Am I right in my...

I have 10 years of experience as an access developer, but can't find work - I was laid off several months ago, and live in the Washington, DC area. Is it possible to have too much experience? I'm thinking of returning to college to study systems engineering, is this a good idea?

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
