What are good development skills to diversify to?

I have spent the last few years working with on a niche development platform but would like to move on now.

I was wondering what are some good languages, platforms to retrain in? I need to diversify my skillset to make me more attractive in the marketplace.

Good platforms languages to learn right now are anything to do with web and mobile. For web technologies you could learn: js, cloud, CRM, popular API's. On mobile good platforms to pickup are blackberry, android, iphone.

It's really a information driven world so the learning technologies that will help people get information when they need on all devices is probably the best way to go.

I'd agree with Jason, finding your niche in either mobile or enterprise web solutions would be a good move up.

I have a simple .NET application with two or three listViews which are filled with icons and when the user click on the proper item, they display the related images. I use "image = null ; " for all images that have been used and are going to be closed. This is how ever no way to reduce the memory consumption. I have noticed , using the task manager, that garbage collector doesn't actually do any collections unless the computer becomes low...

I just read the section (and did the exercise) in the C# Step by Step book that covers Explict Interface Implementation (where you specify in the method implementation the specific interface that you are implementing in the class. Other than to resolve the problem that arises when a class implements two interfaces with the same method signature, what good is it?

The parent company where I work like to use a methodology popularized by Fusebox, for web application development. Fusebox, from what I have been able to gather, is best suited to Cold Fusion. I've checked Fusebox's website (www.fusebox.org), and even they claim that the current fusebox will not work for ASP.NET. Of course, I want to use ASP.NET (we have other ASP.NET applications we wrote some time ago), but I also want to have a robust...

Consider the following where I generate 2 identical ListViewItems, add one to the ListView and then check to see if the other one is Contained? I get the MM message but not the WW message. So Contains only checks to see if the identical Item has been add (I.E., not an Item with the same data) I need a method to insure that an item with duplicate data is not added to the ListView.

Hello, I have done some programming, mostly on embedded systems but now I would feel like I have to learn good development practices (i.e programmer's good manners). Let's say I want to build an application using some established open source library or application. Do I just download the source and hack away? Or I'd better do it in some controlled manner, i.e set up some source control system so that I can always compute the diffs from...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
