Hi All!
General statement: FK should not be nullabe to avoid orphans in DB.
Real life:
Business rule says that not every record will have a parent. It is
implemented as a child record has FK that is null.

Hello,
I've been pondering with this for quite some time now, and finally
decided to ask here for suggestions. I'm kind of confused, actually...
Maybe I'm thinking too much...
Brain dump follows...
I need a class to represent a variable, with an associated data type
and/or value. Though, I don't want it to be a variant type, and not a

I have a datagrid codebehind script that takes data from sql dbase and
displays it in a footer row as a total. One column has amount_dollars
(which works fine), while another has new sales (which is "newstotal"),
but I'm getting an error (System.InvalidCastException: Specified cast
is not valid) from the newstotal line:
price = (Decimal)(rowData);
newstotal = (rowData);
newstotal is an integer, just wondering what datatype i should use

I know in C++ you can create class templates so the data type can be defined
during the declaration of an instance of a class. I was trying to do
something like that for a VB.NET class cut am not really sure where to
start.
Here is an example for a simple DataArray class definition that sets up an
array used for numerical data and adds some additional functionality to the
array. The overloaded new methods work okay, although I'm not sure...

Hello,
In VS2003, I tried using an enum and setting it into a field in a
datarow. It seems as if the datatype of the field in the row
determined what went into the field. If the datatype was string, then
the name of the enum item went into the field, but if the datatype was
integer, then the integer value of the enum was stored.
Is this expected behaviour? I couldn't find anything while searching
for answers.

I'm working on a large project(from scratch). The program is
essentially a data file processor, the overall view is this:
A data file is read in, validated and stored in a memory structure
similar to a database or XML representation. Rules to modify the stored
data will be executed, then the data will be transformed into an output
format.
Think something similar to FormatA -> XML -> Manipulate XML -> FormatB

<what to design a C++ solution for>
A Windows API /resource/ is data embedded in the executable, accessed
via API functions. A resource is completely identified by the quadruple
(id, type, language, file), where (1) id is what, for want of a better
name, I'll call a /kludgeon/, (2) type is also a kludgeon, (3) language
is a small integer identifying a concrete national language or one of a
set of pseudo-languages such as the Windows...

Somebody have offered std colors to C++ in the msg here:
http://groups.google.com/group/comp.lang.c++/browse_frm/thread/2e5bb3d36ece543b/1acf6cd7e3ebdbcd#1acf6cd7e3ebdbcd
The main objection to the including "colors markup" is useless of the
marks, the marks is unneccessary extra information. The most used way
to make colored view of C++ programs is usage of classes of C++
language words (already included in C++): reserved words, user...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
