Re: Obama "Would like to teach the world to sing"

There may be a little truth in what Peter Hitchens writes about Barack
Obama. But as usual he has taken the point of view to such an extreme
that few people will take him seriously. Most will laugh at him for
being a curmudgeon.

Best wishes,

Chris

Only Britain still produces characters like Hitchens. <gA former
Trotskyite turned extreme conservative, he's the kind that Eric Hoffer wrote
about in _The True Believer_. We used to have many of them in the US but we
have better medications now.

Limbaugh is a foul character, and I don't know if Hitchens really is or not,
but let me clarify an important distinction. Hitchens isn't just an
extremist. He's an extremist who flipped from one extreme to the other.
That's the characteristic of Hoffer's "True Believer," and (I'm not joking
here) that behavior is associated with manic disorders.

That's not to say that such people are always manically disturbed, only that
manic conditions have produced a lot of such people over the years.
Extremists of that type tend to get noticed, and it has been commented upon
in the psych literature.

And it's also true, and not a quip, that we have much better drugs to treat
the condition now. d8-)

Do not forget that Rush Limbaugh was, and maybe still is, abusing
these finest American medications, and they did him no good, even in
quantities.

Now Rush is declaring that we are in the midst of "the Obama recession
in full swing". So I suspect that he is still getting those "better
medications" somewhere.

It's likely that Rush is suffering from unknown drug interactions. There are
only so many permutations and combinations that they can test in clinical
trials, and he may well be beyond the frontiers of medical research.

I doubt it.
He wants another Maybach and he's tuned in to the Gunner set.
Nothing stupid about that.

Well, of course--he's *performing*. The question is, what's he like

I am trying to find a prewritten method for converting a string like this:"Hello World" to this "Hello\sWorld". I plan to use it to build a regular expression. Specifically I am looking for a method that can convert not just space (\s) but also any character that needs to be escaped in a given string. Thanks, Matt

Hi, Is it possible to write a C program that prints "Hello World" on screen without having a single semi-colon in the entire program? The extra constraint here is that u r not allowed to use if,while, switch etc. So far,i figured this could be done by insertint the printf statement in main as shown: int main(int argc=printf("Hello world")

Both `K&R C, 2nd' and `C: A reference manual, 5th' introduce the "hello, world" thing using the name "string-constant". But `ISO/IEC 9899:TC2' does not include this kind of thing in section `A.1.5 Constants'.
