How to write binary data to a file using buffer?

I'd like to write compressed data to a file.
To improve performance, I want to use buffer.

I read some books, they all talk about 'character' stream.
But I think compressed data should be binary.

And, what buffer size if optimal?
How can I set the buffer size?

I need to checkpoint the buffer when
1) the buffer is full.
2) I have put all the data to the buffer.

Should I use standard library or boost?

I need to read a binary file and store it into a buffer in memory (system has large amount of RAM, 2GB+) then pass it to a function. The function accepts input as 32 bit unsigned longs (DWORD). I can pass a max of 512 words to it at a time. So I would pass them in chunks of 512 words until the whole file has been processed. I haven't worked with binary files before so I'm confused with how to store the binary file into memory. What sort of...

§27.4.2.1.4 Type ios_base::openmode Says this about the std::ios::binary openmode flag: *binary*: perform input and output in binary mode (as opposed to text mode) And that is basically _all_ it says about it. What the heck does the binary flag mean? -- If our hypothesis is about anything and not about some one or more particular things, then our deductions constitute mathematics. Thus mathematics may be defined as the subject in...

Hello My code below opens a Word document in binary mode and places the data into a buffer. I then want to search this buffer for a string. I tried using strstr but think it stops looking when it reaches first null character or some control character in data. What C function should I use to be able to search in a BYTE data buffer? Code:

I am working on device that utilizes a Motorola 68HC16 microcontroller. I am using an old unsupported piece of crap Whitesmith's / Intermetrics / Tasking compiler. The embedded compiler business was quite insestual for while wasn't it? I need to write putchar so that printf can function properly. Anyway, the compiler comes with just a shell of a putchar routine. It literally returns the character you passed to it and nothing else. That is...

Hi, how can i read input from a data file which contains binary or hex values. I have to use the exact binary data for further processing.only limited number of bits are taken form the file(64 bits) for current processing.Once the processing is done the next 64 bits must be applied. Can this be done?

Hi ALL, I want to read a binary file(it's pic.tif file, I guess it's binary file?), then write it to a new file), I have several questions about this process: When I use fread() to read a chunk of the file into a buffer, when it encounters the end of the file, will the EOF indicator be put into the buffer automatically just as an ordinary byte of the file, or do I have to do it manually?

Hello Everyone, I have a problem I can't surmount, anything is gravy at this point. I need to be able to read any type of file .ext (mov,mpeg,mp3,etc) in binary format. I can do this in C, but have to use: int main(int argc, char** argv) which is archaic. My compiler is Visual Studio 5.0 Pro. To make my dilemma as clear as possible:

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
