Re: friend declared function call

>The following alternatives DON'T work:

wurst::foobla(f oo,2)

This is OK.
No, it isn't. (At least, if it isn't a gcc bug)

gcc says something like "no member foobla in wurst".

No, it isn't. (At least, if it isn't a gcc bug)

gcc says something like "no member foobla in wurst".
OK, minimal non-compiling example:

namespace wurst {
class bla {
friend bool foobla(const bla& v, int x) {
return true;
}
};
}

int main()
{
wurst::bla foo;
wurst::foobla(f oo, 2);
return 0;
}
LANG=C g++ test.cpp gives:
test.cpp: In function 'int main()':
test.cpp:12: error: 'foobla' is not a member of 'wurst'

Thanx in advance for the response... I wanna enquire ( as it is asked many a times in Interviews that i face as an Engg PostGraduate ) about the overloading capability of the C++ Language. Why can't the = (assignment) operator be overloaded as a friend function ? I work in VS 6.0 ( Win2000 ) as when i referred the MSDN documen'n it said the following :

Are static friend functions allowed? I tried this today with gcc-3.2 without success. The function was not a class member. The friend statement was interpreted as meaning "extern", and this was reported incompatible with a previous static declaration. Chapter and verse would also be helpful. I looked around but didn't find anything.

Hello all, I have the following problem, maybe someone can help me out. I have a template class A which has a protected member Aint. Now I have template class B which has as private member an instance of A. Now to get the value of Aint I decided to create a friend function and declare them in both classes. But I cant get this program to compile as it is complaining about an undeclare reference. First I was wonderin if with template...

Question: How do friend functions and static member functions differ in terms of functionality? I mean, neither necessarily needs an object of the class to be created before they are called and either has access only to static members of the class (ie. assuming no object of the class is in scope - neither by arguments recieved nor by local declarations). Any static member function like this: //accessing static member i static void...

Hi, I have a question about injecting friend functions within template classes. My question is specific to gcc (version 3.4.5) used in combination with mingw because this code (or at least code that gets the same result) works as expected in visualc++. I know that this is probably not the right behavior for a compiler but it's the kind of behavior I'm searching for so I was hoping there was a way to do the same thing in gcc. As you know...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules. He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms. Adolph will...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
