Reading Integers from a text file in C

2 New Member
Hello
i need to make a function that would read these two lines
111 2222 3333 4444 5555 6666 7777 8888
222 3333 4444

notice that sometimes they are separated by one space and sometimes separated by a tab

then i need to make a function that will print out what was read

then make a main that will use the first function that reads followed by the second function that will print

should i read the numbers as integers or characters
how do i read a tab
should i store everything in memory so when i use the second function it just loops and prints

any help is appreciated

I hear cin reads until it hits whitespace. I'd start there, see if that fits your needs

fread() is probably the function you want, though fgets() may be of use as well. Note that a tab is '\t'. Google can supply more info than I.

Hi, I am learning and pretty new to Python and I hope your guys can give me a quick start. I have an about 1G-byte binary file from a flat panel x-ray detector; I know at the beggining there is a 128-byte header and the rest of the file is integers in 2-byte format. What I want to do is to save the binary data into several smaller files

With the following code I'm trying to read a text file (infile) and output inaccuracies to the error file (printerfile). The text file is written and stored on disk, while the printerfile has to be created when the program executes. But the compile keeps reading that it can't find the text file. Karl you wrote the original program from which this one is but a poor copy, can you or anyone else enlighten me as to why yours worked and mine...

hey, I am having a lot of trouble trying to get this program to work properly. It is supposed to read integers from a file and place them into the categories for inventory. The problem seems to be that the program will only read the first line of integers from the file, and just print them into all the categories. Any help or suggestions woulud be great, I swear i probably tried everything #include <stdio.h>

Hello, Say I have 1000 text files and each is a list of 32768 integers. I have written a C program to read this data into a large matrix. I am using fopen in combination with fscanf to read the data in. However, it takes about 20 seconds to complete and I wonder if there is a faster way. For example, I found that I could use 'fread' to read the data into a string that looks like this:

Hello All: After trying to find an open source alternative to Matlab (or IDL), I am currently getting acquainted with Python and, in particular SciPy, NumPy, and Matplotlib. While I await the delivery of Travis Oliphant's NumPy manual, I have a quick question (hopefully) regarding how to read in Fortran written data. The data files are not binary, but ASCII text files with no formatting and mixed data types (strings, integers,...

Hi! I have a program with a class that needs to be able to write itself to a file in clear text format. The file has two integers and vector of struct objects. The struct has a string that can consist of one or more words and a few integers. I'm able to create the file properly, as confimed by viewing it in a text editor, but something goes wrong when I tried to read it. I've made a test program illustrating the problem: #include...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
