I'm sure this is a very simple thing to do, once you know how to do it, but
I am having no fun at all trying to write utf-8 strings to a unicode file.
Does anyone have a couple of lines of code that
- opens a file appropriately for output
- writes to this file
Thanks very much.

Hello,
I am writing out a binary file. I figured that the number "10" is
automaticaly converted to "OD OA" instead of "OD". "OD" and "OA" are
line feed and carriage return.
I know it does that if the file is opened in something else than in
binary mode. But in my example below, the file is really opened in
binary.

System.IO.StreamWriter Close or Flush method to shut down the computer in
such a way that just part of the file is written? or an empty file is
written? Also if the Close or Flush is to a streamwriter writing to a
network share, is it possible for the network to go down in such a way that
the tartet file is only partialy written? or are there some kind of check
sums to prevent this.

I am trying to create a stream that writes text to a file and:
- automatically creates a new file once the current file exceeds a
certain size
- makes it possible to be used by multiple threads and/or processes so
that multiple threads/processes can write to the same file (all threads
use the same instance of the stream, processes use a different instance
but still may point to the same file)
Could you point me in the correct...

I've written a web service in VS2005 that uses a COM object to get a file
out of another system. I eventually need to stream the file to the
consumer, but I first need to get the file to a temporary location. I'd
like this temporary location to be a subfolder in my web service. When I
attempt to get the file to /WebService/tmpFolder/filename.pdf it fails. If
I get the file to My.Computer.FileSystem.SpecialDirectories.Temp it works,
but...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
