Linux, extracing symbol table to read core dump

Hi,

I don't think it's quite on-topic here, but neither in in
comp.os.linux.d evelopment.syst em - so here it goes anyways.

I'm debugging code which is in use on many remote systems. The code is
available in source and always compiled at the target's system. Every
now and then it crashes, giving me a core dump.

Here's the problem: Even though I'm sent the binary file (including
debugging symbols, of course) and the core file, I cannot debug symbols
in the C library. Obviously, they are very different on my system. So
how can one get that done?

Greetings,
Johannes

Several people asked me for the following HOWTO, so I decided to post it here (though it is still very 'alpha' and might contain many (?) mistakes; didn't test what I wrote, but wrote it - more or less - during my own installation of Python 2.3 on Fedora Core 1 Linux for a friend of mine). Anyway, HTH, L.

Hi All, I am using g++ on Linux, and my code has lot of vectors each stores a particualr type of structure. (Structure internally had some vectors). When I am trying to push_back an element to a one of the vectors in the parent strutcure, it always core dumps on Linux and HP. On Solaris the same code is working fine without any problem. My code is actually an API, and this problem is seen only by few

Hi, I'm very new to C++ so bear with me. typedef list<string> jcllist; // list of strings typedef map<string, jcllist> proglist; // associative array of lists static proglist ProgList; I do that within a normal function (it has to be called from C so there's no classes or anything - also I'm new to this anyway so it's

I've two questions, they may or may not be related - 1. I copied the entire data directory from postgreSQL 7.3.2 (AIX4.3) to the installation postgreSQL 7.3.4 (AIX5.1), the same filesystem setup. I didn't do an dump/reload process since the copy process is faster. Is it OK to take this shortcut in postgreSQL? any side-effects? 2. The copied database with 7.3.4 pgsql and 7.3.2 data dir seems running OK. But when I run the following...

I have today downloaded gcc-4.1.1 and tried to configure and build it. I have successfully done this before with gcc-3.4.2. The gcc-4.1.1 includes gfortran which is a language that I need. The native build platform is Linux AMD 64bit Opteron. I have previous built libgmp.so.3.4.1 and libmpfr.so.1.0.0 and installed them in /usr/local/lib which I understand are needed by gfortran. My build directory on a local disk is: ...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
