I understand that arrays and structs can't be passed by value into and out
of functions since they can be arbitrarily big. My question is: Why are
types allowed to be passed by value? Couldn't my types be arbitraily big as
well?

Hi,
I'm trying to protect some data in tables with encription (you know why,
don't you ;))
I must confess that I'm not very expirienced in writing code, especially
encription code.
Can any one, please , send VB code for access which I can c/p into one
function. It don't have to be RSA, it can be anything which is easy to

In my current work I noticed that I have several circumstances where I need
to create little if/else constructs to handle the phrasing of a message.
This typically involves a ternary situation like this example illustrates:
0 files were downloaded (or No files were downloaded)
1 file was downloaded
2 files were downloaded
They're all very similar but each is subtlely different. I soon realized
that I could write a few related methods...

Hi There
I am doing some unit testing at the moment, and the majority of the leg work
involves taking two objects (expected vs actual) and verifying that their
properties are equal. The objects that I am testing and their properties are
diverse, including enums, basic system types, arrays and nested types.
The objects themselves were not written by me, and do not have any overrides
for equals, compare ... etc.

I am just trying to decide whether to split my code and uses code behind. I
did it with one of my pages and found it was quite a bit of trouble.
I know that most people (and books and articles) like it because you can
split the code from the design. That is logical. But if you are the only
one working on the code, it seem a little overkill.
I use Dreamweaver to do my design and find it a bit of a hassle to have
multiple files open...

This might seem like a trivial thing, but has anyone has come up with a
better way of outputting a singular vs. plural string?
For example:
// default plural label
$string = "appointments";
// singular label
if (mysql_num_rows($results) == 1) $string = "appointment";
print mysql_num_rows($results) . $string;

Hi all,
I am trying to find the numerical value of a string that stores a two
digit number. I have found the numerical value of a char as:
char character;
cin >character;
int number = character - 48; // Computing the numberical value of
character entered
cout << "The number you entered is: " << number << endl << endl;

I'm working on examples of programming in several languages, all
(except PHP) running under CGI so that I can show both the source
files and the actually running of the examples online. The first
set of examples, after decoding the HTML FORM contents, merely
verifies the text within a field to make sure it is a valid
representation of an integer, without any junk thrown in, i.e. it
must satisfy the regular expression: ^ *?+ *$
If the...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
