Yeah, I'm a lil burnt out and need to go elsewhere. I'll go do that. I know
how bad it gets when I mix livelihood.. no, I didn't mean that! I was
harkening back to when I worked as a wage slave and fell in love. It was
good love then. Well and now too. But, I was not free. I was taking "the
giant leap of faith". I think the love would have been good. I'm not going
to characterize a past love (read, a real woman, geeks (!), not a
programming language!). And go figure, as if that wasn't f'n hard to write
"on so many levels", the f'n wind blows enough to make me hear it when al
night it has been silent.
Where did I start this? That's all for tonight I think. If you ask me
tomorrow, it will be answered, "I said WHAT?!".

Where do you work, JohnQ, that makes you feel this way?

Bullshit. Programming cannot do it to anybody who cannot do it to
him-/herself. If it isn't programming, it's selling, or buying, or
trading securities/commodities, or fighting fires, or investigating
crime, or caring for elderly, or... Stop making excuses for those

I need to identify the path to a users "My Document" folder where the
user has a roaming profile and their "My Documents" folder is mapped to
a network share as the H drive (specifically H:\\ - where the "My

\\ is not an escape character as subfolders only have sinvle "\" when I
am doing some investigation of paths in code).
It appears that the code, below, that I...

All,
I've been asked by my boss to put an Icon in WinXP's "My Computer" for
a utility we use around the shop. My tool of choice is of course
Python and therefore what I am using to attempt my given task. I have
no trouble putting Icons in the WinXP Toolbar using Python, but have
totally failed to get an Icon to appear in My Computer. Any Idea on
why and maybe how to get around this using Python?
Thanks,

installation on my own machine (after uninstalling each previous

I'm makeing a little DB to help manage high school class reunions.
One feature I'm trying to implement is "Friends". e.g. Fred Smith is a friend
of Joe Jones and Bill Anderson. We record that so that when Fred moves and
our mailing bounces, we can call Joe and/or Bill in hopes of getting Fred's new
address.
I started implementing this as just tblFriend linked to tblPerson on PersonID
plus another link to tblPerson on FriendID.

Sorry for such a daft question.
Ive been following some tutorials on creating windows services. Ive not done
them before.
In my original debuggable windows form application, I create my worker
classes. The classes 'run' themselves using several threads and only stop
when the form is closed.
Now I've used these worker classes in the service application. When I try to
run my service manually, I am given a message that the service stopped...

Hi
I have two machines, one running Win 2000 and VS.NET 2002, and one running
Mac OS 10.2.
I can develop web apps on my Windows machine, and look at them in IE, and
they look fine. But if I try to view my pages in Safari (Apple's web
browser) on my Mac, there are various formatting problems. I've investigated
what's happening and it seems that ASP.NET is discriminating against Safari
(and other browsers).

Hi,
I'm trying to move a matlab program into c language. For those who knows
matlab, this is the line I want to program in c:
hx(1:nx,1:ny) = 0; % nx=10, ny=10
It works on a 2-dimensional array (size is 10*10), setting all the
values inside the 10*10 matrix to zero. My C-function looks like this:

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
