public domain OS and C runtime library plus compiler for MVS & VM

The following things may be of interest to the group:

1. A public domain (genuine PD, explicit noitice) C runtime library,
for DOS, Win32, OS/2, MVS (24-bit and 31-bit), OS/390, z/OS, VM/CMS.

http://pdos.sourceforge.net

2. A public domain operating system for the x86 and x386, also from
the above link.

3. A port of GCC 3.2.3 to the IBM mainframe (MVS and VM), available
from:

http://gccmvs.sourceforge.net

(follow the sourceforge link).

I have been playing around with C#, and rading some books: "Understanding ..NET" by David Chappell, and "Fast Track C#", by Wrox. The Chapell book does not mention any code that has a class being declared as public, and with no problems having that class be accessed. The Wrox book says that it is necessary. However, my experimentation seems to show that it is not necessary. When I have this code, I get no compile error, which seems to...

When compiled with Visual C++ .NET 2003 (only), the program below aborts as though no matching catch clause is present. If the copy constructor of A is made public, it successfully catches the exception instead. If I step into __CxxThrowException in debug/assembly mode, it looks like the pThrowInfo parameter created by the compiler excluded typeid(A) from pCatchableTypeArray. It would be reasonable to fail to catch A by value because of the...

Hello, in the last few days I've made my first few attempts at creating mixed C++ managed-unmanaged assemblies and looking afterwards with ILDASM at what is visible in those assemblies from a managed point-of-view I've noticed that: 1) for each managed and unmanaged C function (not C++ classes) I get a public managed static method (defined on a 'Global Functions' class) in the generated assembly with an export name of the form

Hi, I am trying to use <runtime> section within the web.config file. However, the contents of the <runtime> section seem to be ignored. What am i missing here? Is <runtime> section not used by web apps? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Hi all, I am developing an ASP.NET app that will be deployed into a mixed NT4 & W2K domain. The PDC is running NT4 (I know we should have upgraded by now and it is on the cards but this is what I have to work with). On my development machine I have an ASPNET user that I assume is my annonymous user, but this user is not present in the domain! Do I need an ASPNET user

In another thread it was pointed out that I'd made a booboo with strcpy : one that that I've, if I'm honest, made many times before. Not out of badness, just because since I first programmed C back in 1986 (and have done so for about 25 % of the time since then) or so I never really looked at the manpage for strcpy : this combined with K&Rs famous pointer lessons which lead to 2 or 3 versions of a linear start to finish strpy implementatin...

Wondering what the difference is. As it is I have an application on a share which doesn't run if we install the 2.0 runtime. But when the SDK is installed it works fine. Wondering what kind of issues would cause this. Thanks in advance for any responses

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
