Can't get compilers to work on windows vista.

88 New Member
I don't know if its me, but any compilier that I try to use will compile but not create the exe when linking on my computer. Is there a problem with Windows Vista and compiling C code? I have to use C for a course and I can't get anything to run. I know my code is right because I'm just using a sample program to test.

#include <stdio.h>

main()
{

printf ("Hello World!\n");

}

Can anyone suggest a free easy compiler that will work with Windows Vista?

Vista has a lot of new security features. You may need privilges to create an .exe.

I am using Miracle C. I couldn't get it to link at first, so I downloaded a bunch of different free ones and couldn't figure out how to even get them to work.

It ended up being that it wouldn't link because the directory in which my c file was saved and the directory in which it was compiling were different so it couldn't find the file to link to. Once I copied all the files it created in the compile to the main folder it worked.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Hi, I have to develop an application which must run on .net 2.0 on a Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista Business OS. Is .net 2.0 supported at Windows Vista? If I see the supported OS at the download page of microsoft, Windows Vista is not in the list. Are there risks for strange behavior under Windows Vista? TIA, Frank

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
