Reading from Comma Delimited Fields

5 New Member
Hi Guys

I am brand new to C++ programing. I have a file with comma delimited fields.
How do I write a program to read say field # 23 and print it.

I did some reading in the forum but could not get a good feel of it.

Thanks in advance.

You could count 23 commas and read the text directly after that. Or you can try to find a library that has been written and use it. One time I found a good CSV library for a java project I worked on. If you got a hold of that you could port it to c/c++ pretty easily.

Hi, I'm struggling here to do the following with any success: I have a comma delimited file where each line in the file is something like: PNumber,3056,Contractor,XYZ Contracting,Architect,ABC Architects,... So each line is intended to be: key1,value1,key2,value2,key3,value3... and each line is to be variable in length (although it will have to be an even number of records so that each key has a value).

Access 2K, SP3 on Windows 2K, SP4 All, I have an import spec set up with quoted Identifiers and comma-separated values. The text file is produced by a 3rd-party program of which I have no control. It outputs all text fields surrounded by quotes, and all numeric fields w/o quotes. All fields are separated with commas. This has been working for 2 years, until today, when one of the data fields

I'm attempting to write an input routine that reads from a comma delimited file. I need to read in one record at a time, assign each field to a field array and then continue with my normal processing. I am having no luck at all finding different routines written in C to read delimited files of any kind. I have a few ideas of how I might go about this but I bet I'm re-inventing the wheel and there already exists some efficient code out...

Hello All, I have a comma delimited text file, which I would like to move into a SQL 2000 table . I created a DTS package in SQL Server and saved it as a VB.bas . I am writting the code in C# and I though that I might be able to change a few lines and keep the bulk of the code. However , it seems that there is a pretty big change in how VB is written and how C#.net is written. Does anyone have an example of using DTS and C# to move a few...

I have the following string: "smith", "Joe", "West Palm Beach, Fl." I need to split this string based on the commas, but as you see the city state contains a comma. String.split will spilt the city state. Is there a built in function that I'm missing that will do the split and recognize that the comma in city state is part of the item? --

So, right now I'm writing a program in VC++.Net with MFC, and one of the steps involves reading numeric values from a comma delimited file (like 4.56, 2.44, 3.453 etc.). The only methods I've been able to find to read the values all involve StreamReader, and I can't figure out how to use this. Since I'm using MFC, I'm using CFile instead. Also, none of the methods seem to come with a method for error catching. I want my program to be...

I need to create a text file that has the data from the 10 tables in the database. The number of fields in the tables exceeds 255 and so I cannot make a new table with all the fields and then export it into a text file. Is there any s/w out there I could use? I am not much of a programmer but I heard I could use VBA to get this done. Any help with the code will be appreciated. Thanks

I am trying to read comma delimited rows of text. The problem is that some fields may be encapsulated in "" - particularly the text fields but not numeric fields. Is there a simple efficient way to parse the fields with comma but also strip off the "" encapsulating some of the fields with php? The problem is the "" encapsulation is optional. Some fields will have it, some won't.
