streambuf::unde rflow() infinite loop

I'm trying to make a stream buffer which reads from a socket and it
works fine in visual stuiod, borland 5.5.x and g++ 3.2.x but
I get an infinite loop in g++ 3.0.4! I imagine it's somehow my fault
though :)

So I have implemented overflow, xsputn, underflow, uflow, pbackfail and
xsgetn. I haven't made any buffers as I just
want it to read and write from the socket immediatly.

The infinite loop appears when I write cout << mystreambuf; It just
keeps calling underflow over and over and over...
All the underflow function doesn't modify the get pointers or anything.
It just leaves them as null.

Can anyone help me? (I'll paste some code in if necessary)

Hi there. I'm writing a program that uses the Telnet protocol over TCP/IP sockets. Of course, that has no bearing here, so I'll rephrase that in Standard C++ :) In essense, I'm trying to manipulate a data stream by using a custom streambuf, so that I can access this as "just another iostream". Alas, this data stream has a couple of "interesting" properties:

Hi! I was planning to wrap a socket inside an iostream, to achieve something like this: TCPSocket s(..); s << "Hello!" << endl; Information on the web seems to be a bit scarce on how to do this. I have understood that there is a relation between streambuf and iostream, where one should be able to extend streambuf and override the underflow/overflow functions (and do send()/recv() for example).

Hi! I recently decided to write a streambuf which handles streamed IO to a device (ie. a socket). Now, in an effort to move away from C-style IO error handling (ie. if(read(..) == -1) ...), I decided to make my streambuf raise exceptions upon device error states. The code is supposed to run on several platforms, but there seems to be some inconsistency between the different iostream implementations. This led me to believe that I'm...

Hello! Im trying to get a memstream object to work but it seems that I miss something! My expectation is to have one stream for input and another for output! I also expect the streambuf to handle the allocation and deallocation of memory automaticly! Is it possible? I have some C++ books but they all has poor coveridge on this topic! Any examples on this topic!

Hey all, I have read part seven of the FAQ and searched for an answer but can not seem to find one. I am trying to do the all too common verify the data type with CIN. The code from the FAQ looks like this: #include <iostream>

Can anyone provide me with a simple example of a streambuf filter for character substitution that would function like this : fout << filter << fin All the filter would need to do is replace a specific character with another. Thanks for your help.

Hello, my custom streambuf works fine with output via << and with input via .get() but fails to input via >> or getline... any idea why? -------------------- A custom stream buffer (for encryption, currently it is doing "nothing")

I found an article http://spec.winprog.org/streams/ as a starting point, but it seems to do alot of things that aren't very standard at all. One particular problem is, that he is using a vector as his input buffer and trys to assign an iterator to a char pointer. .... class winzoostreambuffer : private LoggerConsole, public sts::basic_streambuf<char, std::char_traits<char>> ....

Hi everyone, I'm having some difficulty with the following piece of code. I have stripped it to it's bare minimum to demonstrate the problem at hand. Compiler: MS Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition (similar problem arises with 2008) Runtime Library: All multi-threaded variants have been seen to fail |

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
