Get key pressed (without getch();)

Is there any way, in a consol program, to see what key is being
pressed, and resume the program is no key is being pressed? (I'm using
Visual C++ if it matters)

Hi all, I was wondering if you could help out with this problem that I am having. What I am trying to do is detect keyboard input in a while loop without halting/pausing the loop until the key is pressed (without hitting return). I looked at serveral faq's on the net and installed the cspan readkey module and neither seems to work most likey its me since I am getting frustrated. but anyway here's a sample code. while (1) { if...

Hi! What is the best way to check whether a key is pressed without blocking in C++? I know I can use cin.get(c) to get a character from standard input, but this blocks. And I know _kbhit() exists in MSVC++, but that's in <conio.h> and probably not standard, is it?

Have read the FAQ's and the forums but still cant find a good solution to this. I am using Linux and G++. I am trying to run a program which computes something or other and have the ability to detect when a key is pressed to make the program output its current reults. I.e. The main iteration runs continuously the user can press 'o' say at any time to output what it has. At the moment I am looking at using a separate thread to handle the...

Hi, How do I read a char from stdin before the '\n' is pressed? for example I know that I can use getch() to read a single char from the user input, but suppose I wanted to read before the carriage return is pressed. for example I type a char and the following actions is done before the '\n' is pressed.

Is there any way to make cin behave like getch()? Specifically, getch() returns immediately after a key is pressed and the cin family of input methods seem to block until a new line is encountered. I need some help.

My doubt is on the working of getch() function based on the following observations 1) if the pressed key has an ascii code,only that can be read using a single call to getch() 2) if the key has not an ascii code then the first call to getch() returns a zero and ,if we made a second call, it will return the scan code with out an additional key press. Some one please help me to understand getch()

In the following code something strange happens ! If I keep pressed any of ALT+Arrow, keys, they are extracted two times from buffer then getch seems to stop; if I release and press again ALT+arrow nothing changes: the only way to exit from this condition is press another key a single time. What seems to happen is that kbhit say some keys are present in buffer but for getch don't see any data and waits for a key. Why this happen ? If I...

You are probably thinking "Another Fool! He doesn't even know how to get what keys are pressed. Use getch()". You might think so, but i need to get the keys pressed without having the console active, i mean, imagine i am surfing the internet and write "http://thescripts.com". I want my program to know that i have typed in "http://thescripts.com", but the window i am typing that into is the Internet Explorer Window, so it's not that easy......

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
